This is the GOPs nightmare. Not that immigrants won't "assimilate", but that they become fully...

23 years ago, my mom and I moved to the U.S.

For 19 years, I was undocumented.

This year, I became a citizen.

Today, #iVoted for the first time.

That is, "we got here and drove out / annihilated the natives first. So this land is OUR land."

what’s in ALL our DNA!

Unless we are of the indigenous tribes who were here first, we are ALL of immigrant stock.

And frankly, even Native Americans can say that. Robs ago, their ancestors migrated here from farther north, across the Bering Strait between the westernmost tip of Alaska and the easternmost tip of northeast Asia. In the winter months, the Bering Strait freezes and becomes a “land bridge”.

I looked it up:
Chukotka Peninsula in Russia and the Seward Peninsula in the U.S. state of Alaska. The bridge/tunnel would provide a connection linking North America and Eurasia. Wikipedia

https://www.google.com/search?q=russia+and+alaska+bridge&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&hl=en-us&client=safari

We humans are migratory by nature. That’s how we spread from one area to another, across the globe. By land, sea, and ice. We are moving parts as individuals AND as a collective. We move. It’s in our nature. It’s in our blood. It’s in our bones. And our musculature. It’s not just WHO we are, it’s WHAT we are.

Hell, even trump is part of that. Even right this minute he’s migrating south - from New York to Florida. Fancy that.

I'm not opposed to immigration, and I'm proud that Dems have a better record of supporting immigrant issues, but keep in mind that immigrants can also be conservative. I've given up counting the number of undocumented immigrants who voted for Trump, or the number of Hispanic supporters who are politically conservative and vote Republican. The irony for the GOP is that they're rejecting the populations that would gravitate toward their party.

Especially in West Houston/Katy/Cinco Ranch areas. Often see trucks and cars with Latino drivers and Trump/Pence bumper stickers.

Always leaves me shaking my head and wondering wtf they see in him. One of my ex-best friends.. Gay, Guatemalan immigrant and 100% in for Trump in 2016. I haven't spoken to him since shortly after that election, but I'd bet he's still not seen just how much he's voting against his own best interests.

Poltical support of the 'strongman' or even dictatorial types. Has deep roots in Spain and Latin America.

Interlocked ofttimes with machismo and virulent misogyny.

But here in Canada, many of the immigrants and first-generationals tended to vote for the party that welcomed them in to Canada -- in their case, the Liberal Party.

Perhaps it does matter where they came from, but I'm going to suggest that the Syrian refugees (some 35,000) whom Justin Trudeau welcomed here will carry on the tradition.

Of Russian immigrants that have ever voted D.

That said, I do believe on average immigrants likely vote D.

sure some immigrants voted Trump because they see it as the "American" vote, or they are pro-business and anti-Muslim or anti-LGBT, or whoever they hate. Some are socially conservative and vote accordingly.

The majority of non-white US Citizen immigrants vote Dem. White immigrants might benefit from the privileges Trump has promised so they might vote Trump in higher numbers than nonwhite immigrants. Many Cubans also fall into this category because they feel hostility towards leftists in Cuba.
