First lady visits cuddling program for babies born on drugs

First lady Melania Trump on Wednesday visited a Boston hospital that uses cuddling to help infants born dependent on drugs or alcohol. The first lady met with caregivers and administrators at Boston Medical Center and told them she's "very focused" on their pioneering work with babies born with neonatal abstinence syndrome.

"I hope today's visit helps shine a light on programs like yours," she said, joined by Alex Azar, secretary of health and human services. The hospital developed the cuddling program to nurture babies born with neonatal abstinence syndrome. The hospital also works with expectant mothers who misuse drugs or alcohol.

Outside, as many as 200 workers at the hospital gathered to protest the visit, condemning the tough immigration policies of President Donald Trump's administration that they say discourage immigrants from getting health care.

... workers who joined the protest wore white hospital jackets with the slogan, "We really do care, do you?" on the backs.

She might. We really don't have insight into her relationship with Barron. maxsolomon Nov 2019 #7

I expected pictures of a mother cuddling sick babies making those faces you make when you hold someone precious. Then....oh yeah, Melania.

I hope there are some somewhere, I have not looked really hard yet because you kind of have to figure than any article without a picture like that probably could not find a picture like that.

I hope I am wrong. Seriously. Maybe they would not let anyone do that who had not been checked or maybe she would not change into hospital garb that might be required. I cannot believe I am making excuses for her but as a mother I am simply sad and sickened that there are apparently no pictures like that and no reason given as to why. She really cares?

I try hard not to blame her but why? I guess you have to think of a woman married to that thing as a victim herself but no.....

I really can't imagine her cuddling her own child, so I find it not surprising that she wouldn't cuddle other children.

Perhaps she did.

She has managed to keep him out of the public eye, deliberately. So she's protective at a minimum.

I imagine that when President Sociopath sheds this mortal coil, Melania's feeling will become better known.

that one has a hard time with "mother" and "Melania" in the same sentence. However, if her going there puts a light on the program, I'm all for it. Attachment is so important to babies and attachment can be a profound problem for some babies of addicted mothers. Lack of attachment is a problem that starts very early and can have negative effects on the child and society for many years, so let's get this all the attention possible..
