KRUGMAN: Trump really isn't on trial-What's really happening is a sort of trial of the GOP

Paul Krugman

‏To say what should be obvious, Trump really isn't on trial in these hearings. The evidence of impeachable offenses has been overwhelming for weeks. What's really happening is a sort of trial of the GOP 1/

Anyone who's been awake for the past three years knew that Rs would defend Trump no matter what. It was also obvious that they would eventually try to smear the witnesses and peddle nutso conspiracy theories 2/

But they did all that ON THE FIRST DAY. And it didn't work, except in the alternative Fox News universe. So I'm wondering what comes next. Do the conspiracy theories get even crazier, accusing everyone of being on Soros's payroll? 3/

Or will there be something even further out of the box? A mass GOP walkout? A staged Brooks Brothers riot? Don't say I'm being silly — they've got nothing, and will do anything to hide that reality 4/

Something not unlike an Arthur Bremer scenario - except presumably it would be a grazed shoulder, or buttock.

A Mexican, Venezuelan, or Iranian passport will conveniently be found on the assailant.

He famously had 'Maggie’s Drawers' during target practice - i.e. he couldn't hit a sleeping cow from ten paces away.

Now, Cheeto's ass - that should be an easy one.

In all seriousness, I hope and pray no one at the White House is seriously considering a stunt like that.

Although as underhanded as they are, it's a pretty safe bet they've at least mulling the idea.

This is something I have been worried about, it sounds ridiculous. They are desperate, and will do anything they can to retain power.

Anything to win.

Especially in this case, since they know the second they leave the White House - it's straight to federal court for many of them.

Anyone who supports the Republican Party supports oppressing the voices of people they disagree with. I don't care how kind & decent they are to those around them, by supporting the GOP, this is what they support.

And then there's the cult. I honestly believe they would like to outright kill the libs. Is there anything like that on the left? A cult that advocates second amendment solutions on fellow citizens?
