"Life is too short". What does that mean to me? It means life is too short to deal with any kind of bullshit from people. All people, including friends, family, people at work, etc.
I am getting close to retirement age now. I have seen it all. I have watched what has happened to people who allow bullshit to be part of their lives. Their lives have been insane. They have wrecked their lives.
I did not get married until I was 40 years old. Not because I didn't want to, because I could not find someone who would not bring bullshit to my life. I dated many women and there were a couple of them that I really loved. I loved everything about them except I knew if I married them I would have to deal with the bullshit they had in them. When I turned 40 I met a woman from brazil and I soon realized she was like me. No bullshit involved. We have been married for 20 years now, No bullshit in sight.
When I faced bullshit at work I fought back. It was brutal because sometimes I had to fight alone. When I faced bullshit from friends I stopped hanging around with them.
When I faced bullshit from family I disowned them. That's the truth.
Today in America the people are dealing with complete bullshit. Trump is complete bullshit. The people who support him are complete bullshit. All what we are watching is complete bullshit.
My wish , my dream, is one day the American people will understand, "Life is too short"

(Democratic nominee): No more bullshit.
This is what Trump campaigned on, really. Of course that too was a lie.

(8,445 posts)I'm happier every day, with a few setbacks, of course, after my divorce this past February. My ex husband is a sullen old man whose favorite possession is his barrel of grudges. I found out he was cheating after putting up with his crap for 25 years. It turned out to be the best thing ever, yet I have struggled with wanted revenge.
Oh yeah, and after being a decades long Democrat, he voted for Conald.

(16,743 posts)wrong, planet protection and treating people as you would like to be treated, especially those unable to take care of themselves. This translates to animal species in my mind and basic earth stewardship.
I have a great "bullshit meter" which flags certain people, behaviors or ideologies. It's linked to a moral compass. 45 has none of the above, and there can be no acceptance or even pretense of acceptance for a dictator wanna-be thug. He (and the GOP) are just awful on so many basic topics/ issues, on so many levels, and are counter to any progression of us as a culture, species or even our very survival for that matter.
Good post and best to you.

(5 posts)I always try to follow the opinion of Emerson.
What is success?
To laugh often and much; to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children; to earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends; to appreciate the beauty; to find the best in others; to leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch Or a redeemed social condition; to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded!
Ralph Waldo Emerson
I think we are enduring the betrayal of false friends right now. Not the first time for me.

(343 posts)I think the key to living a BS free life is F-you money. There have been times in my life when I took endless BS because I needed the paycheck. I spent a huge hunk of my life without F-you money, and it was hell. Once I traded in an old car and bought a new one. I was in debt, and had little savings. I was called in the office and raked over the coals for some BS, and I looked out the window at my new car. If I had not bought it, I would have told the manager to cram it and left. So in my opinion, in our country the way it is set up, go for F-you money. Once you have it, you can leave BS behind because you don't have to put up with it.

(15,540 posts)I like your post. The older I got, the less BS I was willing to live with. I, too, have lived by the motto "life is too short", mainly because I watched my parents die at young ages which cemented that motto into my heart.
However, your last statement is the most important one. I am now 70 and I will probably not be alive if and when the day comes that the American people as a whole "get it". As they say, hindsight is 20/20 and looking back at the history I've lived through, I can see a clear demarcation when our country got off on the wrong path and that was during Reagan's time in office. The differences between Jimmy Carter and the message he gave and Reagan and his message could not be more stark. The 80's became a time where the majority of people bought into the greed is good and materialism is OK notion, and if you're struggling - well, it's probably your fault. Wearing clothing with a designer's name on it was everything. I hated it then and I hate that it happened during my adulthood.
We will not get to a place where we are an admired country ever again until we stop the glorification of money and things at the expense of what's truly important, and that is working together towards shared goals and values and finding ways to repair the extreme inequality we are now witnessing in our nation. Maybe there is a tipping point where people will have so much that they'll just get tired of chasing after the latest shiny object and spend their time on earth doing good.
