It could grow into something that at least rules him out for POTUS. When I think of a raging, vengeful Trump determined to punish the American people for betraying him and newly convinced of his power, though, I'm not sure that's a good thing.

Even if McConnell decided he needed to dump Trump, how would this affect that decision? I'm afraid Trump might well become even more, even extremely, dangerous in the short term, while Pence and his authoritarian/religious bloc would be very dangerous over a longer period. Pence always fit their plan, and this would be getting back on track.

The GOP is going to realize there's no saving Trump and Pence is dirty, too. Given the election results in VA, KY and LA, they now know there's nothing to fear from distancing themselves from Trump who they don't want anyway. But if Trump resigns, then Pence has the same problem with the "arms for dirt" crime. So, they'll figure a way to make Pence resign, install an establishment R type like maybe Boehner as VP, then convict Trump, remove him from office and allow Boehner to finish out the term.
