It is no more a sign of whether you are a Democrat that poor spelling or grammar is, in general.

I know a lot of strong Democrats who say democrat, rather than democratic. It's just part of how they speak, and it has never been an issue until republicans discovered they could yank our chains by saying it.

Did the Dems you know say that before Republicans started doing it all over cable news? Just curious, because it was very noticeable and an obvious talking point when the GOP started doing it.

The ones I am most familiar with have been saying it since the 60s & 70s.

As to it being a talking point - it is, and it is insulting to the Democrats I grew up with.

E.g. the door needs to be fixed.

Same kind of ungrammatical speech pattern that, even when pointed out, is persistent because it is how they grew up speaking.

Suggesting someone is not a real democrat based on using democrat instead of democratic is insulting, and suggests an intolerance of others based on regional or educational differences.

... occurs when one has been brought up with such speech patterns. They have heard those around them speak that way, and it comes naturally to them.

That at least suggests that she has been exposed to it enough that it has become normal to her. That makes you wonder who she is strategizing with.

There is a lot of smoke around her. That is a fact. I saw an article that said a recent analysis found that RT posts more positive stories about her than any other candidate, by a pretty substantial margin.

Maybe it was just a gaffe. Maybe the article was BS. But 2016 taught us that sometimes crazy conspiracy stories bite us in the ass. We have too many other good candidates to risk it, imo.

Because we don't know whether she was "brought up with such speech patterns," or is illiterate as to grammar. Neither of which indicate she is a Republican in disguise.

If you're suggesting there is substance there - go for the substance, not speeh patterns that can be entirely innocent - especially since it makes those of us who use similar speech patterns - or grew up with many democrats who did - feel less welcome.

... enjoy your posts. I lurk much more than I post, and always appreciate your thoughtful and reasoned take on issues. And your point here is well stated.

I don’t buy into the “she’s a Republican or Russian plant” nonsense. And on most issues I agree with her. But her foreign policy ideas - pretty much an isolationist platform - are naive, I think, in today’s globally connected world.

We HAVE to support allies militarily - Ukraine is a perfect example of why. We HAVE to project strength around the developing world because if we abandon that influential position it leaves a vacuum some others are more than happy to fill.

I suspect her support from RT stems from the simple fact that her foreign policy position is very much the position actors like Putin would WANT in a US president. When trump entered the race, the Russians surrounded him with influencers who shaped his views. He welcomed - and in fact enthusiastically embraced - the influence, obviously. But even if he had not, it still would have been insidiously corrupting. They still would have “used” an uncooperative trump to the extent they could. I think it’s possible that she’s been picked by influencers to be influenced.

That was what Clinton was getting at a month or two back. She was saying that Gabbard was playing into the hands of those who want to influence the 2020 election. Gabbard s response was, oddly, pretty damned vicious to have been directed at our most recent party candidate.

https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.vox.com/platform/amp/policy-and-politics/2019/10/22/20924999/hillary-clinton-tulsi-gabbard-fight-explained

An interesting read here too:

https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.nbcnews.com/news/amp/ncna964261

Again. My tin foil hat may be a little too tight here. But there really does seem to be something a little “off”. And I think 2020 is too important to ignore red flags - even seemingly small ones. And, perhaps most importantly, I think she’s compromised. I’m not sure how we could expect her to unite democrats when she’s in a fued with HRC.

to anyone in the Democratic field except Gabbard, I have no trouble believing that she is not someone I want to support. (My friend says if Gabbard is not on the Democratic ticket she wil either write her in, not vote, or vote for Trump (depending on who the Democratic candidate is) - but my suspicions have nothing to do wtih language she uses.

It has to do with how you learned to speak - and demanding that people change their speech patterns merely becuase some bullies have decided to use it as a taunt. Frankly, it sends the message that we value what bullies say about us more than we value those among us who did not have all of the educational advantages others may have had.

And its not "a few," and it's not limited to "way back when."
