If someone refuses to show up for a subpoena, is there any sort of statute of limitations that would prevent them from being punished later, presuming William Barr is no longer AG after Jan 2021?

Or is ignoring a subpoena technically not a crime?

3. Objecting to a subpoena is not a crime

The process is, to put it mildly, not as simple as many people on DU seem to believe.

No, a lawyer in a civil lawsuit, a Congressional committee, or anyone else empowered to formulate and serve subpoenas is not somehow automatically entitled to whatever they ask of whomever they ask it. There are many valid reasons for not complying with a subpoena, and there is a process for adjudicating objections to them. Whether the participants choose to avail themselves of those processes is up to them.

5. There's another layer of complication here

The WH witnesses are claiming a complete immunity from having to testify.

While there is a legitimate scope of executive privilege in official deliberations, the claim they are making goes well beyond the scope of privilege ever recognized.

The question is, with the current composition of the court, would you like to spin the wheel and have the court issue a decision that would greatly expand the power of the presidency to an extent that it would take a generation to undo?

7. pretty much everybody is going to be gone for TG break

during that break, staffers are still working report is getting written and court decisions will happen. So we might as well chill til the judge tells Bolton to honor the subpoena. Then they'll get together again in January and sweep up. Seems like the only thing we can do.
