Here's how it works: To ensure a spot on The Wall Street Journal's Bestseller list, you need to sell about 3,000 books in the first week and to hit gold and the New York Times Bestseller list, you'll need 9,000 copies sold in the first week.
The books don't have to be sold at full retail price, so placing a single order of 3,000 books should get you a hefty discount if you buy directly from the publisher.

You know, to fool the rubes into believing they are all one book at a time sales.
