What news source do you depend on for the truth?

Last edited Sat Nov 30, 2019, 06:59 PM - Edit history (1)

I go first to DU to see which articles in which of my trusted sources are relevant. Then I read those articles. My trusted sources are the NYT, WaPo, Atlantic, the Guardian (not sure why... am I right with The Guardian). I suppose there are others. If CNN or MSNBC break a story I tend to trust it.

Edit: How could I forget NPR and PBS? The Newshour is my gold standard.

What about you? Do you agree with my picks? Do you recommend others?

But most of my news is traditional, in that I watch the ABC news, and then a Milwaukee ABC affiliate's news.

I understand that most people don't have the luxury of being retired. So accessing NPR is more difficult for them.

However, I turn NPR on in the morning and leave it on most of the day. I love the diversity of subject matter. They feature some wonderful interviews with knowledgeable guests.

Some shows feature a call-in where we can ask questions.

Listening to radio allows me to get other work done without being tied to the TV, computer, etc.

If I hear something that makes me want to know more, I can do a computer search for content.

And it's free!

and both. A fair fund of knowledge about the issue discussed needed to discern bias, or even outright lies, is critical, the same as so many others. And how many of us know enough? These days I put a good amount of trust in Propublica, but its coverage, though very valuable, is limited.

There is a lot of bias when it comes to story selection so I need to get the whole picture.

I like the Intercept because they are not biased toward either party & have excellent contributors. I like The Guardian better than most US sources.

I also like the Phoenix New Times.

the Washington Post. I watch MADDOW and LAWRENCE and whenever I can DEADLINE WH. I watch Chris Hayes Live on Fridays. Hiw live shows are very informative and amazing.

I gave up my subscript to the NEW York Times. I do miss it because they have the best archive evar.

I listen to The Oath with Chuck Rosenberg but mostly I like to read. Right now, I'm reading a CRIME IN PROGRESS. it's really really good.
