So Northam in VA doesn't want to repeal "Right to work"

https://www.huffpost.com/entry/virginia-ralph-northam-right-to-work_n_5ddd8bcde4b00149f725b566

With Democrats like this who needs republicans...........

Why Virginia Democrats’ Refusal To Repeal ‘Right-To-Work’ Law Matters

Regardless, Northam’s remarks that he cannot “foresee” Virginia rescinding the law, delivered alongside outgoing Republican legislative leaders at a state economic and revenue forecast meeting, discouraged unions and progressives eager to see Democrats both reembrace their historic solidarity with organized labor and enact policy with an eye toward the party’s long-term political fortunes.

<snip>

Unions have greater difficulty organizing and maintaining power in “right-to-work” states because those states bar unions from collecting dues from workers they represent in front of management. As a result, some workers choose to “freeload,” or benefit from the union’s protection without contributing, which typically limits a union’s financial resources.

Right-to-work policy “has succeeded in its purpose: The wage levels for working people in the state of Virginia are appalling,” said Chris Townsend, the organizing director of the Amalgamated Transit Union, who has lived in Alexandria, Virginia, for the past 30 years.

He didn’t “want” it. The article specifically said it was unknown whether he would veto a rescission bill.

I would predict that if a bill passes the new Dem led legislature, Northam WOULD sign it.

My question is would he veto a bill removing right-to-work regulations.

Here are some things Northam supports (and may get a chance to implement now that the state legislature is controlled by Democrats):

Gun Control:
Universal background checks
A ban on weapons with high-capacity magazines, suppressors and bump stocks
Reinstating Virginia’s one-handgun-a-month rule
Requiring reporting of lost and stolen firearms within 24 hours
An extreme risk protection, or red flag, law
Tougher penalties for allowing children under 18 to access to loaded firearms
Allowing municipalities to “enact any firearms ordinances that are stricter than state law”
Prohibiting anyone subject to a protective order from possessing firearms

An increase in the minimum wage

Decriminalization of marijuana

Allowing localities to decide what to do about Confederate Monuments (replacing Republican enacted policies that prevented local governments from taking down such monuments).

Ratification of the Equal Rights Amendment.

Support for abortion rights

Labor has been getting little more than lip service in return for our contributions and GOTV efforts. For years. Labor being taken for granted is one of the reasons we lost in '16.

First, let's remember that legislatures make the laws and governors administer them.

Second, Republicans control BOTH houses of VA's legislature. They WROTE and PASSED the "right to work" law and aren't about to repeal.

Returned for: Third, VA is a swing state moving blue and this is a huge census/reapportionment election. How giving a waffling answer on a question about right to work is part of a strategy to turn the state blue I don't know, but you can bet it is.

And last, I am so sick of these scoundrels who work to defeat Democrats by blaming us for Republican crimes. I'd like to beat them all with a stick. For lying dishonest agendas, for partisan malice, for horrific damage to the public understanding, and, in some idiot cases, for incredible willful stupidity.
