(12,272 posts)I figured she might have shared and bounced some ideas off of him, but in the end, it was all hers.

(5,106 posts)I'm sure they bounce ideas off one another all the time. The Clinton's were the same in terms of intelligence, but Bill was persuasively more charming and Hillary had to work to achieve the respect in her own right. Nonetheless, while the right wing howled over the suggestion that we were "getting two for one" with the Clintons, I think we've had exactly that with the previous and current two Democratic presidents. This is the 21st century, and it's taken over sixty years to get back to Eleanor Roosevelt. Betty Ford was the most impressive Republican first lady: very real.

Ick.
Hopefully your husband isn't like that and can be enlightened to his subliminal biases.

(12,272 posts)He had a little smile on his face, but it was also a serious discussion here. His argument is that Obama writes his own speeches and maybe she did too, with his support. He was being somewhat facetious because I was so enthralled with Michelle and going on about how brilliant she is.
He is working on enlightenment, just like the rest of us.

(8,401 posts)... She's a very powerful speaker in her own right. Why would your husband assume she needed her husband's help?
siligut
(12,272 posts)He commented that because Barack writes his own material, maybe she wrote hers. I was raving about her in general and it was his comment that Barack writes his own speeches and they are quite powerful, so maybe he helped Michelle with hers. He wasn't assuming she needed help, and seriously, if I had Barack around to critique my speech, you had better believe I would ask him to.

Anyone have a link to the Daily News cover with Ann Romney in her $4,000 dress? Just curious. Maybe they ran with that. But I'd be surprised.
Do you have to bulk buy them?

(81,500 posts)At least four figures, I'd guess. Michelle kept hers to three digits ($450) and it was elegant, tasteful, just a little different, and VERY chic. Looked GREAT on her too. With shoes by J CREW!!! Now if THAT isn't relatable, I don't know what is! ann romney's dress was basically just another "republi-CON red" dress.
MADem
(135,425 posts)Some call it a "Prarie Dress" and others are calling it a "Donna Reed" dress.
Apparently she was told to not wear it as it would clash with the background...I guess the GOP couldn't CHANGE the background for Queen Ann? It's not like the backgrounds were static, after all.

(135,425 posts)pushed the price up?
Anyway, MO's dress was four HUNDRED bucks; shoes from JCrew, so say the ladies on the View. A thriftier choice but she certainly looked at least a hundred times better...much more natural, much more With We, The People rather than "Nancy Reagan Red Looking DOWN on the (You) People."

(81,500 posts)Our First Lady looked like a million bucks!
And I really like her color palette - four years ago she wore turquoise. This last night was sort of a shimmering salmon. She wore ochre and green on Inauguration Day. Usually what you generally get is women in reds and blues. I remember being surprised when Geraldine Ferraro wore that white coat dress in 1984. That was different also. sarah palin wore charcoal and cream - and actually I did like her outfit. Just didn't care for what it was on.

(10,952 posts)has worn expensive outfits but they are generally for official functions. What we don't know is what outfits are loaned to her by designers and which ones she purchases herself. In addition, Michelle has also proven that you can dress spectacularly in more affordable clothes. I imagine that her clothing budget is a whole lot less then Ann Romney's budget. Michelle is one of us while Ann aspires to become Empress.

(54,437 posts)And that is: Michelle Obama is far FAR more interesting to talk to than Ann Romney, and that if they want an interview some time, they might consider some factual reporting on her. It doesn't have to be deliberately flattering. If they are merely factual, considering who we are talking about there, the "flattering" will take care of itself.

(21 posts)I watched(via the web) Ms. Obama give a graduation speech a year or so ago. Articulate, uplifting, inspiring! At that time, I concluded that, as much as I admire Mr. Obama, he just may not be the most intelligent and articulate person in his family. They both give terrific speeches that make me believe that they are actually saying what they truly feel. We are truly blessed by having them in the White House.
