Wyoming students disciplined after coming to school in white robes and a hood

https://www.cnn.com/2019/12/19/us/wyoming-students-white-robes-and-hood/index.html

(CNN)Two Wyoming high school students were disciplined Wednesday after coming to school in white robes that officials say were "designed to represent KKK apparel."

The students came into Riverton High School Wednesday wearing white robes and one with a white hood, which they pulled up as they came in, according to Terry Snyder, the superintendent of Fremont County School District No. 25.

"It seems to be a very poor decision," Snyder said. "They did not have an understanding of the impact that would create but they do now."

Snyder said the students never spoke of any ideologies or made any offensive remarks, but their actions could not go unaddressed.

Same as not teaching about the Holocaust, not teaching about the KKK means the teachers and administrators do not have a sufficient curriculum to teach their student important subjects.

I know - my American History teacher was terrible. She spent a LOT of time on the Civil War with an emphasis on how mistreated the South was, how Uncle Tom's Cabin was lying propaganda, and how the War of Northern Aggression destroyed the Southern states. Of course, most students knew that her husband was a member of the local KKK and what a rabid racist she was,

I had to learn for myself about the Korean War, since she didn't include it in her version of American History. The Vietnam War was ongoing so it was current events, but she wouldn't have taught that, anyway. She barely covered World War III aside from Pearl Harbor.

I knew as a teenager how poor the school system was and I know now that most systems are much worse today.

They learned that behavior from their community leaders, governor and the president of the United States.

This is the works the GOP is working to create.

With a healthy dose of Mormonville, and a few cattle barons who live off of government grazing leases for $1 an acre.

They put on white robes and hoods and had no idea what they were doing might be offensive???

Ok then that school sucks. Or more likely they knew exactly what they were doing?

Riverton, a town of roughly 11,000, sits on land that was carved out of the Wind River Indian Reservation in the early 20th century, a fact that has long led to tensions between the mostly white residents and the roughly 14,000 Native Americans who live on the tribal land.

Many of my indigenous friends live near there, on the WRIR. Racism is a major issue in the Rocky Mountain states and anyplace there is an Indian Reservation. Dominant white culture oppresses them most of the time. Like being black in Alabama... Only these people were here first and our ancestors stole everything from them. Our own ethnic cleansing events in the US of A, the consequence are still here and may never go away.

These kids felt safe to act this way in their environment meaning they were taught that white supremacy is what it's all about and clearly okay. Most of my friends from the area will agree.

Some of my friends from Lame Deer IR tell me stories of the latest racism they witness every time I see them. This is a big part of Wyoming culture, make no mistake about it.
