A 60-year-old gay Latinx man named Juan Fresnada was beaten to death in the Bronx, New York by a gang of men who are still being sought by police. While video footage captured the attack and the faces of the attackers, it also showed that no passing drivers or pedestrians stopped to help as Fresnada as he lay dying in the busy public street.
The attack happened near 1:30 a.m. as Fresnada exited a McDonalds fast-food restaurant with his 29-year-old partner Byron Caceres. Caceres said that a man walked up to Fresnada, repeatedly demanded money from him, and then followed them into the street before several other men began attacking the couple.
A friend of Fresnada told the press, The guys just told them Give me the money, give me the money. He was like I dont know what youre talking about.
My husband tried to defend me, Caceres added. The guy had his fist ready like he was ready to attack me. My husband said, Dont you get close to him.

(51,308 posts)I gotta wonder though, why the husband didnt run into the McDonalds and tell them to call 911 since he didnt have a phone.
Those precious minutes make a difference.

(54,066 posts)I can produce a number of stories where victims were in or ran to crowded places, only to be ignored or filmed. That said, I do agree it is a good choice if available.

Not sure why the guy didnt at least try, but he may have been in shock...who knows. Awful story. I hope to god they catch the cretins that did it.
I somehow doubt thats their first time.

(54,066 posts)Hopefully, may neither of us (or our loved ones) ever be in such a position to confirm or deny the action of a business calling 911 in a situation like this.
I would guess shock was an issue, and people react differently in situations like this. Though my husband is bigger than me, when someone started to go after him who was a bit bigger than him, I jumped the asshole, which scared the fuck out of him (I am 5'7" . We just never know until we are in the situation.
I, too, hope they are caught, and people continue to condemn them and not make excuses for their behavior.

(54,066 posts)As for the husband, I don't know what was going though his head. We all act differently in situations like that. It's easy to second guess when we aren't in the situation.
