Madame Secretary? She's now Madame Chancellor!

https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-northern-ireland-50970400

Hillary Clinton appointed chancellor of Queen's University, Belfast
By Robbie Meredith
BBC News NI Education Correspondent

Hillary Clinton is to be the new chancellor of Queen's University, Belfast (QUB).

She is the university's 11th chancellor and first woman to take up the post.

In a statement, Mrs Clinton said it was a "great privilege" to become the chancellor of QUB.

She takes up her role immediately and will serve for a period of five years.

Mrs Clinton succeeds Dr Tom Moran - who died last year.

While the role of chancellor is mainly a ceremonial one, securing Mrs Clinton will be seen as a coup for Queen's.

Always loved Hillary. From the first moments I discovered her during the 1992 campaign.

She started getting attention as a spouse-of-candidate who was a power in her own right. When she said “I’m not just ‘standin’ by my man’ like Tammy Wynette,” I literally sat up and took notice.

“What??? A woman like that??? Who sounds like ME????? Where’s SHE been all my life??? Shit, I’d send HER money!!!”

I remember the big uproar that comment caused. Tammy Wynette got her nose outta joint and whined and sniped. Others harrumphed the now-standard put-down of any “uppity” woman who steps forward and speaks her mind, dammit: “who the hell does she think she is?”

And I remember thinking “who the hell does she think she is? How ‘bout First Lady-Elect, assholes? If not even HIGHER someday?” Heck, I was electrified at that moment! I couldn’t believe that a candidate’s wife was so strong, bold, and assertive that she’d say something like that (ESPECIALLY coming from Arkansas forcryingoutloud). I remember thinking “O. M. G. She is ME! That’s ME! She’s just like ME! Where can I sign up?!?!?” It was quite literally love at first sight.

And she WAS. I suddenly was amazed to start learning how much she WAS just like me. First of all, younger. Like me. Every First Lady or other such political wife was my mother’s age. Or even my grandmother’s age. Nah - really couldn’t quite relate to that on a personal basis. And she was a working woman. Like me. Had not just a job she loved but a career she loved. Like me. A working MOTHER. Like me. With a young kid. Like me. A working mother who dressed for the business world. Like me. Who was established and taken seriously in a previously all-male/male-dominant world. Like me. Hers was the legal profession while mine was broadcasting. College graduate. Like me. An equal partner in her marriage. Like me. Had even kept her own last name for a long time in her professional life. Like me.

I’d never experienced that before. Even with Jackie Kennedy - who back then was the outlier young political wife in a sea of older (and often frumpier) candidates’ wives - who mostly “stayed home and baked cookies and had teas” and were all “MRS. Somebody”, of value strictly because of who her husband was, instead of being significant on her own. Even Jackie was a “mom-type” for me, since at that time, I was only a few years older than Caroline Kennedy. Hillary, on the other hand, was a frontline warrior in her own right. Like I wanted to be, someday. And she instantly became a role model for me, and she still is.

And I NEVER liked Tammy Wynette.

She sang about standing by her man, but was married three times.

Loretta Lynn famously sang about "The Pill," and a number of other songs about options for women. She was married once (one and done, if you will.)

To be fair, the song "Stand by your man" was not written by Tammy, but by a man, trying to imagine how women might talk to each other when no men are around. This is unlikely to surprise anyone who has read or listened to the lyrics.

My source for all of this is Ken Burns.

I am angry beyond words every single time I see that piece of filth that usurped the oval office and denigrated the office of POTUS...I am happy for Hillary (she looks genuinely happy in that photo, and she DESERVES that happiness...), but I weep for what has become of our country and indeed the lost opportunities to lead the world in these moments of insanity (climate crisis, North Korea, Iran, Iraq, Afghanistan, no ends in sight!)...

Goddamn it!!! I KNOW 2020 is going to be on the same exhausting level as 2016 was...but son of a bitch it is raw, painful and depressing to see what IS and know what should have and could have been...looks like I picked the wrong year to stop sniffing glue...

He is a coward, with no morals, no intelligence, no standards and certainly NO RESPECT. Failure from start to finish. He will never have any characteristics expected from a president or a leader of any kind. He would not qualify to lead a cub scout troop. An accomplished, intelligent, experienced LADY was all set to take the lead, and we ended up with the biggest failure on the planet as "president". He is a joke, that has gone on for way too long.

When I think of what could have been, I literally ache in my heart and in my gut. It’s almost physically painful by now, especially considering what an abominable one-man wrecking crew in there now. Sitting in HILLARY’S Oval Office, behind HILLARY’S desk, squatting illegitimately in what is rightfully HILLARY’S White House.

And I’m sick and tired of hearing the CONS yowling about the 62 or 63 million people who “spoke” and “decided” the last election whose will is being ignored or overlooked. Fuck ‘em! OUR candidate got more votes. Try 65 or 66 million of ‘em. Who voted in bigger numbers for HER. NOT him!

SHE got the most votes.

You do realize the repukes are going to use this to say she is working with other governments for her own profit and destabilizing our country purposely while doing it.

They will use that as their new "lock her up" reason.

Never fucking mind that they are ACTUALLY doing all of that on center stage in front of the entire world.
