BUT, I lived through the 90s, and while people have some kind of romantic notion of what he was when he was McCain's wing man, he was the same now as he was then.
He has always been a childish, impetuous republican POS.

To me, Palin is solely responsible for making it ok to hate. She opened the door. Made it acceptable. The first to openly make it ok for racists to trash President Obama.

(15,243 posts)McCain was still a warmonger and Graham encouraged the old Bomb Bomb Iran. Warmonger Lindsey has plenty of negative vibes to feed off Trump. As far as animal analogies go here is hoping the Graham moth finds a flame.

(22,976 posts)I do know that Steve Schmidt did say he left the GOP, dont know about Rick Wilson, hes more likely to remain conservative.
At least these two are doing their part to repeatedly point out how insane and ghastly Trump is.
Someone will probably rip this post with cries of Steve Schmidt foisted Sarah Palin on us! Im willing to let Saigons Be Bygones (per Kinky Friedman) on this one.
I appreciate help from anyone at this point, liberal or conservative, and the use of whatever resources are available. Events have placed us all in harms way now.

(10,749 posts)And I hadn't looked at it that way.
But I really have to believe there's more to it, e.g., blackmail. Before, he was a dick. But he's a republican, so dickishness is a given. But he was a dick we could understand. And he had some moral limits, as indicated by his anti-trumpism previously. But his statements now, his slavish support for trump, are just so damn dramatically different.
So my bet is still on blackmail.

(302 posts)...and did an amazing rant about about Trump using the strike against Soleimani as a smokescreen from his impeachment.
Schmidt: Looking at the Ukraine issue, looking at every issue, is he over and over again acts in his own political interests. Looking at impeachment. What he did, for sure, is survey the situation and understood that with this action, with this strike, that he would create a giant smokescreen that clouds and distracts around the issue of impeachment. This is a political act that has endangered the country. Once again, this is Donald Trump acting in the international arena detrimental to American security interests. Now exceeding the outragesness in Ukraine by an order of magnitude for self.
The consequences will be felt for many, many years. So were moving into the consequences stage of having an inept, selfish, boorish, incompetent president of the United States and blood will be spilled, American blood, because of it.

(13,129 posts)Hes alone. Its not like he has a family, a child. His time, when hes away from the spotlight, I think is a lonely time. Hes more comfortable in the spotlight where hes Senator Lindsey Graham...
Youre going to find Lindsey knows a lot of people, but hes not close to anybody.
With regard to the cruelty and abuse that was directed at John McCain by Trump, I think Lindseys flaccidity in defending him says a lot about his character. Nobody wants to be in a bar fight when they go out on Friday night. But when someone walks up and punches your best friend in the face, youve got to do something. Lindsey has demonstrated hes the guy who runs out the door.
