If anyone was killed, their loved ones will be told they died in an accident.

Still scanning overseas news web sites for credible info on this new Iraq event. Meanwhile, I ran across this tweet:

Text:
Jim Sciutto @jimsciutto
Ollie North, who secretly sold missiles to the Iranian regime in the 1980s, is on Fox right now offering advice to the president on how to respond to tonight’s missile attacks on US bases by the same regime.

Latest: There are casualties among the Iraqis at Ain al-Asad airbase following the attack early Wednesday local time, an Iraqi security source tells CNN.

Although who knows what or who to believe of anything coming out of the Middle East right now. Just like during W's Iraq invasion.

One of my first thoughts when Trump started this fiasco was that there are hundreds if not thousands of independent militia groups existing between Syria, Iraq, Lebanon and inside Iran as well, and some floating about in Saudi Arabia. Most of these are loose cannons and could attach any number of sites that might be perceived as having American or other Western connections.

A few interesting points I found on Middle East Eye......

Iranian rockets target US bases in Iraq in response to Soleimani killing
Iran claims responsibility for attacks, saying they were in response to 'criminal and terrorist' US operation

"Iran launched more than a dozen ballistic missiles against US military and coalition forces in Iraq," Pentagon spokesman Jonathan Hoffman said in a statement late on Tuesday. "It is clear that these missiles were launched from Iran and targeted at least two Iraqi military bases hosting US military and coalition personnel at Al-Assad and Erbil."

Whether the attacks caused any casualties was not immediately clear. Hoffman said that the US military is still assessing damages. Both bases also host Iraqi forces.

(interesting points)

Earlier on Tuesday, Tasnim reported that Tehran had prepared 13 scenarios for retaliation, with even the most limited of the options being a "historic nightmare" for the US.

Ali Shamkhani, the secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council, told the news agency: "The 27 US bases that are closest to Iran's border are already on high alert; they know that the response is likely to include medium-range and long-range missiles."

Esper had confirmed that forces in the region were braced for Iranian reprisal strikes, but said Washington would prefer a diplomatic solution. "We're prepared for the worst. We hope that cooler heads in Tehran will prevail and de-escalate the situation," he told CNN.
+++++++
Tehran threatened to strike Dubai in the United Arab Emirates and Haifa in Israel if Washington responds to the rocket attack, Iranian-government affiliated Arabic news channel Al Alam reported.
++++++++
Hours after the attack, a Ukrainian air plane carrying 180 passengers crashed shortly after taking off from Tehran's international airport, Iranian state TV said. It was not clear if the crash was related to the events in Iraq.

Esper seems to have missed the elephant in the room: that the primary need for cooler heads is in Washington, D.C..

and then they ban the Iranian Foreign Minister from coming to speak to the UN.
