Susan Finley returned to her job at a Walmart retail store in Grand Junction, Colorado, after having to call in sick because she was recovering from pneumonia.
The day she returned, the 53-year-old received her ten year associate award and was simultaneously laid off, according to her family. She had taken off one day beyond what is permitted by Walmarts attendance policy.
After losing her job in May 2016, Finley also lost her health insurance coverage and struggled to find a new job. Three months later, Finley was found dead in her apartment after avoiding going to see a doctor for flu-like symptoms.
My grandparents went by to check on her, and they couldnt get into her apartment, her son Cameron Finley told the Guardian. They got the landlord to open it up, went in and found she had passed away. It came as a complete surprise to everybody. It just came out of nowhere.

(58,785 posts)We would now have universal, at worst near-universal, healthcare in this nation if enough of us had voted to do it. We were so close!
We still are, though.
With all the will in the world, enemies of progressive healthcare have not been able to destroy what we created, only damage it a bit, but keep it from being available to those it's supposed to cover and of course keep it from being expanded and improved as planned.
Btw, Bernie Sanders voted AGAINST improving the ACA just last year, including expanding coverages and lowering costs, for purely political reasons. He did that even though his own, currently nonexistent, program would take most of a decade to replace it. Strange commitment to saving lives.

(5,134 posts)I am not a Bernie supporter per se, but since I know damn well that such a piece of legislation would most certainly have a bunch of pork in it, it is no surprise that a sensible person would vote it down. So, what else was in it? Do you know? If you don't, then perhaps you might read the quote at the bottom of your post.

(21,717 posts)I pay an arm and a leg for my Obamacare policy. But in November, it turns out I needed a quadruple bypass. I'm still alive and kicking and ythe bills are starting to come in now. I don't even know if they would have done the surgery if I didn't have insurance, I have heard there are some things that they make you pay for in advance if you don't have insurance. While I owe money here and there, I can't believe how much I don't owe and insurance didn't pay for. The surgeons's total bill was about 10k. Insurance paid some, I owed $35. The rest of the bills have been equally as absurd. Just Thank God I had ObamaCare!
