It disintegrated long before it hit the ground, FWIW.

(62,444 posts)Who is reporting that it disintegrated long before it hit the ground?
This video suggests there was a fire of some kind, and a large explosion on impact:
However, historically DU has had an abundance of experts on what aircraft crash sites "should" look like.

(18,770 posts)No way it hit the ground intact, and debris flew a mile away.

(269,045 posts)Debris also flew for miles
Dennis Donovan
(18,770 posts)I didn't see that.
On edit: that airliner did disintegrate from structural failure at a high altitude. This one was only @ 8000ft.

(62,444 posts)...and I'd wager that you aren't either.
I was just unsure from the OP where that conclusion was coming from.
The DU 9/11 Forum archives are chock full of a number of aircraft crash experts, many of whom are unfortunately no longer with us to share their expertise.

(51,308 posts)If youre a commercial pilot, you sure have a lot of free time on your hands for posting. My, oh my.

(18,770 posts)I know one thing. I have a hard time attributing any value to your opinion due to your PA's.

(82,383 posts)results of crashes?
You could know how to fly the plane but that does not mean you'd know anything about the results after a crash.
Dennis Donovan
(18,770 posts)I was correct.
I know a great deal about aircraft - BA in Aerospace Engineering as well as my commercial ticket. I know how they're built and I know how they fall apart.

(51,308 posts)Ive only heard reports that it was on fire before crashing.
But of course,I my not an expert like so many here.

(62,444 posts)But citing to an article published after the OP doesn't mean the OP was based on any more factual information than what others say it "may have been".
At least that article flags speculation for what it is.

(32,707 posts)At first, I was thinking the US or Russia was responsible, but now I think Iran accidentally struck it down. If not, why are they being so hush hush about this?
Dennis Donovan
(18,770 posts)They had all their AA batteries manned and on the lookout for a US response (meaning they were likely anxious).

(15,888 posts)And both 737 Max crashes had huge impact craters. Something else happened here. I'm willing to wait for an investigation to conclude.

(29,718 posts)and why was Vlad in town? Was that connected?
Dennis Donovan
(18,770 posts)*If* it was a shootdown, it was likely accidental by Iran AAA, IMO.
