If you're still using Facebook,

Don't just scroll past the clickbait site ads and other ads. Take the time to hide the ad, mark it irrelevant and hide all ads from that advertiser. If you do this every time you see some crap on your feed, pretty soon, you'll see a lot less of it. If you just scroll by, Facebook will keep showing you that crap.

Take control of your Facebook feed. Use the tools the site gives you to hide stuff you don't want to see. Don't just ignore it. Hiding all ads from any advertiser takes less than 10 seconds.

Just saying...

to destroy our Democracy. It doesn't matter a whit what you do with the ads. Your patronage makes them powerful.

Eventually, you get rid of most of that stuff, but it takes some time.

More important is to make your feed invisible to everyone except your friends, and then choose your friends wisely. For example, if a friend frequently shares clickbait sites, hide the friend, too. Who needs friends who spam your feed?

I'd rather the opposition to their many miserable policies be opposed in the open, using the forum THEY created, rather than just silently slinking away from Facebook.

A Progressives for Facebook Change group?

I have hid some ads but just ignore others thinking for every ad i say no to they will just send me more.

Are you saying that isn’t true? At some point they give up and leave you alone?

material, ads, rah, rah, Uber patriotic stuff and all gung-ho for the military/flag. So the hide button works nicely since they are mainly reposting someone’s meme or ad. Works very nicely to sort out the stuff that makes my blood boil, while things I enjoy seeing are still there. Poof. No more tRump ads. It is rather empowering to know that I won’t be seeing that again or anything else from the person who created it.

Then my boss got on everyone in the company about using it for work so I had to open another account. I have been doing what you have suggested, which is good advice. The other thing I did was to restrict my account so that only friends of friends can send me a friend request. Since my new account has no friends, I don't get any friend requests at all which is nice. Facebook really hates that, but I keep shutting them down. I only use it to see work related products. I use text and email for friends and family, or we just see each other face to face. There is so much to know on Facebook and yet so little of it is even worth knowing. We truly live in the age of disinformation.

and the reasons I select rarely have anything to do with the content of the ad. I may report an ad for cars as being sexually inappropriate and report an ad for food items as supporting a political candidate. The point is to get Shitbook to greatly reduce the number of ads I see and it works.
