Although it would have been nice for the house to try to get Bolton in the others to testify, that was probably a six-month fight to the Supreme Court.
You can't say it's vital and an emergency to impeach Trump on one hand but yet sit around for 6 months to vote on the other.
But it's a whole different ballgame now. It could be the Senate that subpoenas Bolton, the Senate that has to fight Trump in the courts, and the Senate that might have to hold off on an acquittal vote for 6 months while they wait for the courts to decide.
McConnell won't be able to say we aren't going to wait for the courts to decide, we are just going to vote right now.
The Senate might start the trial but they might not be able to end it until the summer when the courts finally decide. It could sit in the senate in limbo for months and Trump won't get his acquittal lol.
If Trump fights it, it could take months. If Trump doesn't fight it, Bolton might come in and cook Trump's goose and the Senators won't have a choice but to vote to remove.

(5,435 posts)I think he will rule on the spot so who knows? I would never count on roberts to be even handed, and too much procedural wrangling will look bad on tv.
the problem is not proving that trump did it, we all know he did. the problem is that repubs think (or are willing to pretend) what he did was good. 2/3 of the senate is a tough sell.
