Are you angry?

I am. I'm sick of these Republicans refusing to uphold the Constitution and their oath of office.

What is a trial? An opportunity to present witnesses and evidence for each side.

How can these Republican Senators refuse that?

They are cowards and traitors. Every damn one of the Republicans should be removed from office and tried as traitors. Every damn one.

However - as a procedural matter, it may be that Moscow Mitch set up the rules that the Senate would hear the statements by the House and the WH, and THEN take a vote on witnesses and documents.

It's not an excuse, really, but I think that is what our (deeply) concerned friend Susan Collins would say. Mitch told them they were not allowed to vote for Chuck Schumer's amendments. He told them they must stay 100% unified, and that just maybe they might be permitted to vote for witnesses and documents later.

I just made this point in another thread. It does make me wonder why Moscow Mitch would do that at all however. How does he justify giving them an opportunity to vote later, unless he has some ace up his sleeve to derail the whole thing.

Call McConnell what you will, the fucker has been effective.

They are elected officials by the citizens of their state, to work for the people not Moscow Mitch or Trump. Either they work and vote based on behalf of their state and use the brain nature gave them or get the hell out, they do not belong there.

We have a government designed by white men to maintain power of white men. The Electoral College is a result of that. The Senate with it's unequal representation of voters is that.

We need major change and not toward a dictatorship and fascism.

I had very low expectations for the Senate "trial", and I don't watch the fools on television. I can't. It is nauseating. Sometimes I miss having the news on...but I've seen the Republicans in action way too many times. It was a foregone conclusion from the get-go.

The pretrial is ongoing, we're losing, I am buying candy. Kid that's hanging around the cashier remarks that it looks like I'm going to the show.

"No," I say, "I'm watching the impeachment, and I am upset." Cashier tells me, "He's not going to be impeached." And I said, "I want him gone."

The kid says, "We have three different opinions here." "Oh?" "He's against impeachment, you're for impeachment, and I don't care." I said, "It's probably not a good idea to discuss this now."

But the clerk said anyway, "He's done so much good for the country, he's the best President of the last five. The economy is so much better. He doesn't need to be there because he's a billionaire. He's a businessman."

Man, it sounded like talking points taken from, I don't know. I was in a hurry, and also I find it worthless to engage such people. All you get is talking points without any data. Just nothing. Lockstep. So I didn't say anything except that I agreed that Trump would not be impeached.

I find that people who voted Republican and like Trump usually claim to be Libertarians. So, I can at least respect someone who admits they like Trump, unlike others who hide it.

But I find this whole mess so tiring. Listening to adults spewing lies infuriates me. And, they are pretending they are superior and know stuff, when their logic falls down and they appear as idiots. *These* are the people we elected to lead us? Gah!

I don't want to hear these assholes saying, "Oh, I didn't know it would end up like this! Sorree!"

I think the Dems are representing well with what they have got to work with. I remember when everyone was wondering why they didn't start the impeachment. Well, now we know what the Repugs are doing with it.

I trust Nancy and what she has done, but the Repubs do not plan to impeach the Orange Turd, and quite frankly, I think the election will be rigged. It took a war--losing a war--for Germany to stop what it was doing. Jared and Donald are going to mess around in the ME until the world is at war.

So, I hope all those that voted for this dictator are going to make it through so I can rub their noses in the blood and guts of what they have done.

I am FURIOUS.

We'll see how that goes, but I think they need to hear from us in the same way they heard from us before the giant 2017 tax cut for billionaire parasites, and later at the Kavanaugh hearings. Yeah, we lost in those instances, but that does not relieve us of the responsibility of protesting the actions of Moscow Mitch and his henchmen in the Senate.

Who are they to deny subpoenas of White House documents?

and went to bed.

Now I'm awake at 4 am. My plan today is to call my two worthless senators, Burr and Tillis, and tell them they aren't fooling anyone. We know that a trial includes witnesses and evidence. We know the president is lying. We know his attorneys are lying. And I'm sick of the lying and disrespect for the Constitution and the rule of law.

And then I'm going to tell them when I get off the phone I will be writing a check to send to the campaign of Cal Cunningham, who is running for Tillis seat in the Senate. And I will be making some donations to a number of other Senate hopefuls, none of them Republicans, because the Republican party has become a gang of traitors.

There was a sense of unreality. This morning, there's some numbness. But a hell of a lot of determination.

What helped me was writing to my senator (McSally) and donating to her opponent.

But there's no denying it's a very grim time for our country.
