An embarrassing moment for Trump's legal team

This was the actual Washington Post headline. A more accurate headline would have been "One of MANY embarrassing moments for Trump's legal team."

In their sheer desperation to smear the Democratic impeachment managers, Jay Sekulow launched into a diatribe about something that he claimed Representative Val Demings said shortly before Sekulow's argument.

The problem is that Demings did not say what Sekulow claimed. She repeatedly referred to the FOIA lawsuits, and even spelled out what the acronym stood for:

“The president’s lawyers may suggest that the House should sought — that this House should have sought these materials in court, or awaited further lawsuits under the Freedom of Information Act, a.k.a. FOIA lawsuits,” Demings said.

Appearing shortly after 6 p.m. Eastern time on the Senate floor, Trump’s longtime personal lawyer Jay Sekulow offered an indignant rebuke of the Democrats’ impeachment managers. What he was so incensed about: that they had allegedly referred to “lawyer lawsuits” in prosecuting the case against Trump.

“And by the way — lawyer lawsuits?” Sekulow began. “Lawyer lawsuits? We’re talking about the impeachment of a president of the United States, duly elected, and the members — the managers are complaining about lawyer lawsuits? The Constitution allows lawyer lawsuits. It’s disrespecting the Constitution of the United States to even say that in this Chamber — lawyer lawsuits.”

Sekulow added that it was “a dangerous moment for America when an impeachment of a president of the United States is being rushed through because of lawyer lawsuits. The Constitution allows it, if necessary. The Constitution demands it, if necessary.”

And when they got caught in their error, Team Trump doubled down claiming the transcript supported their claim....the only problem? It did NOT.

He was trying to say that the impeachment could not be compared to a trial because there wasn't due process, but instead he said that the impeachment could not be compared to due process. His voice was quavering and he was having trouble remembering his next words. His hands were shaking, even.

He tried to dig himself out of the flub by talking about due process, and then he went on to his next point awkwardly. It seemed very strange to me that he was so unable to handle the situation.

than displeasing the boss. They know exactly what Trump is hiding and most likely have been complicit in Trump's impeachable behaviors.

The Trump team was bumbling, incoherent and dishonest. The only thing more pathetic is that Republican Senators are voting in their support.

Of course, that means they're setting up for a Dem landslide at all levels in Nov.
