(Yes, non-Wisconsinites--it's that f***ing bad up here. I'm surrounded by so much red, it looks like a crime scene.)

(86,636 posts)I lived in Madison back in the early 80s... my how things have flipped! It wasn't heaven back then but it beat the heck out of IL from where I escaped to WI. I miss some of those days but I also remember marching in the square for a number of reasons as well.
I hadn't really paid attention for a long time until Walker showed up, I am sorry to say I was glad to be somewhere else at the time. It will take some serious work to clean up the mess he made while in office and I'm sure he's behind some if not all of the opposition to repairing the state since his ouster.
This is good news, I hope it is an early step in the state's recovery from the last couple gubernatorial terms!

This state needs a new motto. It is no longer moving Forward. Having just a Democrat in the Executive Mansion isn't enough. He needs a lot of support. The other two branches lean so far to the right, they'll fall over any moment now.
You were lucky enough to be in Madison. That's still in the Badger State. In those 62 red counties, I consider that to be the Comatose State. You have people openly carrying guns, folks who never traveled outside WI, but still speak with a southern drawl, and incest galore. Just combine inbreeding with crystal meth and you'll get someone from northern Wisconsin.
If anyone is in need of a job, come north. Nobody seems to pass the drug tests, so the Help Wanted signs are starting to turn yellow.
I married a lady from here or else my ass would've been gone long ago. (I guess I don't have a future with the Dept. of Tourism.)
