From a Washington Post article:
In the hours before House impeachment managers presented their initial arguments for the removal of President Trump on Wednesday, senators of both parties delivered a warning: Attack us, the jurors, at your peril.
The warnings delivered gently by Democrats and sharply by Republicans came after a testy marathon debate over the rules for the impeachment trial that continued until nearly 2 a.m.

Outrageous and an insult to the Senate, said Sen. John Cornyn (R-Tex.). We dont need to continue the clown circus that was started in the House.
...
During the debate, multiple Democratic impeachment managers declared that alongside Trump, the Senate is on trial, and suggested that senators themselves would be part of a coverup if they oppose their efforts to call additional witnesses and subpoena unseen documents that the Trump administration refused to provide.

(82,849 posts)Reports from the floor have noticed that about two dozen Republican Senators have excused themselves from the Senate floor for an extended period of time (that is to say, longer than a potty break even for some crusty old farts with prostate problems). It's not apparent to me if Chief Justice Roberts, the presiding officer at the trial, has noticed the absence of so many on the majority side of the aisle. My guess is Roberts had eyeballs tattooed on his eyelids and is catching 40 winks whenever possible.
