He's not going to leave the Party.
Republicans that believe he will leave if he is defeated, or after his second term, are mistaken.
He has built a cult following and he has no intention of leaving it. Nor will they desert him. They will stick with him even if he is no longer in the White House.
As long as Donald Trump remains alive, he will control the present Republican Party.
It doesn't matter if he is in office or out.

Nah. Who am I kidding?

(32,626 posts)Trump is a very useful tool. I'm sure the GOP, and their handlers, are very pleased with the amount of outrageous..or egregious, stuff he's pulled off with little fan-fare. But, he does nothing on his own. I used to think that corporations were the real owners of government, and I guess I still do....but now that everything is global, hard to say....even the military has global corporations working for whoever pays them, under whatever flag. Somethings afoot.

That could happen, if he's not pardoned and if Democrats control Congress after 2020 and his crimes are adjudicated.
Or if McConnell dumps him when Mitch realizes his majority is going to be lost.
Or if Putin jettisons him, because THAT denouement will be nasty, brutish, and short. (And it is inevitable)

(4,104 posts)Well never get rid of him.
Hes rather like a fly that got into the house and buzzes around hysterically until it dies or someone kills it.

(382 posts)McConnell does. HE'S the one we need to get rid of. Trump is nothing without him.

(14,564 posts)You are absolutely correct that he will run a very brash and disruptive "resistance," Rs will get even MORE out line in congress and the state level, and he WILL be the 2024 nominee ...

(25,251 posts)he's going to have to work at trying to stay out of jail.

(31,261 posts)He is going to have that as long as he breathes. I also believe that Trump would want to create an ATM situation, where he pulls big bucks from government long after he is out of office, so he will promote people for President that will give him what he wants, his children or lackies like Gym Jordan.
