https://www.cnn.com/2020/01/24/politics/34-injuries-iran-missile-strike/index.htmlThey lied over and over about this. And then Trump said this. "No, I heard that they had headaches, and a couple of other things, but I would say, and I can report, it's not very serious," Trump replied during a news conference.
How despicable is it to lie about wounded US soldiers over and over and then to downplay their wounds? How much more despicable is it coming from a 6 time draft dodger?

(13,612 posts)might escalate things. It's more likely Trump had somehow been convinced launching a war would hurt him, and held back the information on casualties to avoid appearing to be weak. But I wonder if the first scenario might really be what's up. Now they would want to coverup the military holding back that information from him even more. That would really be humiliating and actually a dangerous situation.

(19,095 posts)The military and Trump worked in concert to first say 0 injuries, then they said 11 injuries, now we find out there were 34 injuries that sound pretty serious.
I don't let Trump off the hook at all, he knew from the start. This was all politics, he didn't want the public to know because he'd look weak. And he forced the military to lie about it.
Know that this act alone would have ended Clinton's or Obama's presidencies. They would have been impeached and removed for this stunt.

(82,849 posts)After all, that's what happened in the Benghazi attack, there was a lot of confusion on the ground, and some details were reported that turned out not to be true. Like whether or not the attack was in response to that nutjob's video depicting Mohammed, or if there was a stand down order, or why nobody notified Superman to fly in and rescue everyone.
I think we all remember how calmly and equably the Republicans reacted to every passing detail, true or not. I hope they like a taste of their own medicine.

(11,336 posts)Some of this number would probably be fairly described as "minor" (half have returned to duty). In common terms, these probably wouldn't be thought of as "casualties." And some are apparently of more serious nature (with service people being returned to the States). Donald Trump lies as he breaths, so there is no surprise in that at all. One can only hope that his casual disregard for our military and their welfare is inviting some reassessment in the ranks. (And let's not be fooled .. there will be many more repercussions for this flagrant attack on Iran and it's honor in the months and years to come.)

A year and a half ago I had what I thought were sinus headaches because I had a cold. Next thing I knew I woke up in the hospital and was told I had surgery to relieve a subdural hematoma.
Of course these people had been through a missile attack the conclusion they were suffering from more than headaches was the right one.

(19,095 posts)"No Americans were harmed in last night's attack by the Iranian regime. We suffered no casualties. All of our soldiers are safe and only minimal damage was sustained at our military bases," Trump said an address to the nation after the attack.
