I know they have to do it, but buttering up the Senators sounds so hollow...

when we know the Repubs in the room are knitting sox for their grandkids and surreptitiously watching cat videos on their phones. Seems like they have said at least once each day how thankful they are for the patience and attentiveness of the Senators.

Yeah, they pretty much have to do that, but...
