Pompeo may be the most intelligent member of Trump's inner-tribe. Finished first in his West Point class, at least. And I think his responses to Mary Louise Kelly -- at least until the not-off-the-record post-interview -- were as well phrased as they could be, given the fact that he was repeating lies fed him by His Monstrosity and Stephen Miller.

It is disturbing that a man as smart as Pompeo can lie so well. (He is clearly better at it than his boss.) But Ms Kelly did an excellent job of staying on point and, try as he might, he was unable to wriggle off the hook she had lured him with. That, I think, is why he acted like a total dick in the post-interview. Simply stated, the fat s.o.b. lost it because he'd been bested by, OMG!, a liberal journalist -- and a female at that. Does America care about f-ing Ukraine? he asked, giving away his and his bosses actual feelings about an ally being eaten up by Russia? Can you even find Ukraine on a map? he asked. And that, that, that was asked out of smug anger. She answers "Yes, I can." And a sober minded person would have let it go. A true dick would order an aid to get that map of Europe without country's names on it.

When stupid people get into positions of power and act stupidly and say stupid things, it bothers me because people get hurt, nations get hurt. But when smart people act equally stupidly and without honor or honesty, it darkens my mood because it shows how weak and dangerous is the human animal.
