I think one of the things that really resonated with his run in 2008 (and prior) was how he made people feel as though we could be involved in the outcome of our government. I think we've been so concerned that we've disconnected from that feeling. Tonight, he brought it back around to that again. His analogy of voting for the Democratic party is actually voting for ourselves is brilliant. I believe he needs to continue hammering home that point. That this isn't about the President, it's about us and the party of me is not about us...

(62,277 posts)They want you to be disillusioned because they believe that society itself cannot be nurtured but that the almighty markets are the only way society should be run and that the poor and downtrodden can wing it. That's what they believe.
So they spend a lot of effort making people disillusioned about the process, advocating for crash and burn philosophy, etc. They don't actually want to be part of the overall process of society.

(2,928 posts)The Republicans have, for years now, offered themselves up as a refuge for scared (white Christian) people. I really feel that now they are trying to actually exacerbate those fears.
An essential point that explains so much. Thank you, Josh

And I loved the way he talked about his religious faith in an organic way, without turning it into a loyalty oath.

(11,833 posts)tempered by the wisdom that republican opposition is meaner, more ignorant, more cynical and more self-centered than ever. Their main goal appears to be to turn younger more idealistic people off to politics forever. I've got news for them. They aren't turning me off. They turn me on to vote for our President.
