The Trump administration wants to put new spending caps on Medicaid.

President Donald Trumps administration is taking its most audacious step yet to roll back Medicaid, with a new plan that would cap spending for the government program upon which poor Americans depend for health insurance.
The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services announced on Thursday they would accept applications from states that want to set up a Medicaid block grant, a long-held goal of ideological conservatives who want to scale back the social safety net, and one deployed successfully to severely limit cash welfare benefits in the 1990s.
These spending caps would fundamentally change how the program is financed, ending Medicaids days as an open-ended entitlement by putting new hard limits on how much the government is willing to spend on health care for certain enrollees. Medicaid would no longer pay whatever is necessary to provide medical care to the people in or near poverty who qualify for its benefits. Instead, spending would be limited in states that got a waiver from the federal government, and they could impose cuts on benefits.
Trump has already tried to fundamentally alter the Medicaid program through work requirements, though hes been stopped in the courts. But the block grants represent an even more basic remaking of Medicaid on his watch, one that would lead to spending cuts and fewer benefits.

(34,661 posts)amazing as to whom would suffer the most. First of all it would be the Rethug members of congress. They hail from the poorest of the Populace locations. Secondly, all those so called Trumpers doing their best to get by on their Social Security will get smacked big time if they require Medicaid as well as Medicare .
The one group whom will be devastated will of course those whom live in assisted living as well as Nursing Homes. And having had elderly parents and In laws who's affairs we handled . We know first hand how that would play out. Most Families would be bankrupt with in months.
This is nothing more than a scam by the Orange Anus One to pass onto the surviving family members any and all costs not covered by those whom would not have the financial where with all to pay their Medical Bills out of pocket.

(34,661 posts)The Heritage Foundation as well as another group floated this very same POS during the Cheney's Reign of Terror. Guy's like Kudlow,Ross, and other wing nut economic so called experts have yelled this to the roof tops for decades. All about sucking more disposable income dollars out of the economy to be transferred to the Wall Street owned Insurance and Hospital elite owners.
It has become a "I got mine screw you" Nation when it comes to Health Care.

(34,661 posts)if their Federal Funds source was cut off. Doubt if their are Children who even have the minimal Skill Set to deal with a elderly person whom might need 24/7 care. Or even one with minimal daily needs care.

(34,661 posts)just had my Spouse's Brother In Law suddenly have a ramp-up with his Dementia. Our Niece and her Hubby have some experience as both worked in Nursing Homes part time as part of their CNA training. But,when it comes to Dementia, not so much. Finding a facility that will take new Patients in a rural area at this time was a bust. And Dementia is a crap shoot to deal with when it becomes more acute. The phyical violence takes over.
Luckily the local ER Doctor who by State Law can not release any patient that has mental health issues that might cause self harm or harm to others, was able to find a Bed at a Mental Heath facility a couple hundred miles away in a Neighboring State.
Again, private supplemental heath insurance saved the day. My guess is,by this time next year, his reserves will by gone and another chapter begins.

(63,917 posts)to look up who is pissing on them, it's that 1%. Again, it's that 1% who feel that the rich are entitled to retain the wealth that they feel that God has given them. That's some sick perverted thinking. They hate the poor and wish them to suffer. Not so "godly" is it?
He's a vile, vile man.
