Here is a rundown of some of the numbers from the budget requests R&D chapter. (The numbers reflect the portion of each agencys budget classified as research, which in most cases is less than its overall budget.)

National Science Foundation (NSF): a cut of 6%, or $424 million, to $6.328 billion
Department of Energys (DOEs) Office of Science: a cut of 17%, or $1.164 billion, to $5.760 billion
NASA science: a cut of 11%, or $758 million, to $6.261 billion
DOEs Advanced Research Projects Agency-Energy: a cut of 173%, which would not only eliminate the $425 million agency, but also force it to return $311 million to the U.S. Department of the Treasury

(12,265 posts)I wish my husband had gone to industry instead of higher ed. It is impossible to get funding these days even for great research. I wonder if people know how many cures have come from higher ed research labs? The pharma companies only care if it makes them money, cures don't make them money, they want things for chronic illness.

(31,261 posts)I remember then ridiculing things like studies of lizards that could tolerate extreme temperatures, they saw this as a waste and their followers fell in suit, but the research has led to more efficient ways of treating burn victims and methods for putting people into a medically induced coma to save their lives.

(22,166 posts)if an agency had more than 1 syllable in its name, then it's budget was slashed/cut. rump can't handle an agency with more than 1 syllable its name, it's too difficult. Agricultural research service, another blow to farmers I am guessing. All of these agencies, play small but important parts in today's society. Tells you exactly what rump is all about, and what's he stands for. It's not advancing Science by any means, it's not furthering American interests what-so-ever. What an idiot. Thank goodness Congress will have something to say and/or do about the final budget numbers, if rump's going to want anything, he's going to have to compromise big time. Especially when his damn wall is still getting built, at the cost of other planned projects across the board.
