(82,849 posts)But that's against our national religion, the High Church of Redemptive Violence. You don't see Americans celebrating peace makers publicly, certainly nothing like our national rituals glorifying the military and weapons of war.
Doing nothing about the increased militarization of our society hasn't done anything to blunt it; maybe Rep. Omar has an idea worth trying?

(42,641 posts)I have made the point that, looking at US history, there are very few times when the US has not been at war. Or looking for a war.
The economy is heavily based on war spending, but it is called defense spending to make it sound better. The real reason that the US cannot afford MFA, and free tuition, and rebuilding the infrastructure, and many other things, is in large part due to the enormous amount of money that is spent on war-related projects.
