Watch the proceedings!
Just wait for the career folks to continue talking as soon as next week. And wait for the public too.
In a decent scenario both the Speaker and the Chief Justice would address the nation about threats to their branches of government and the country as a whole.
The Con will be a one term president - take that to the bank.

We know Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer will. They will not remain silent.

(2,691 posts)He'll keep his eyes closed and his hands covering his ears and not say a word. I really fear that he may have weighed the pros and cons of speaking out in terms not of justice but of his own legacy.
It would appear, from Roberts' viewpoint, that if Trump stays in power, Roberts' silence will only enhance his reputation among the victors as they write history. On the other hand, if Trump loses, Roberts will appear above the fray -- or so he may want to believe -- not sinking to the level of "politics" to engage Trump or his loyal acolytes.

(40,212 posts)I fear that the republicans will continue to cower in fear and silence. They are what I call "curtain closers." They are like the local populations of Europe who closed the curtains while their Jewish neighbors were being loaded onto trains.

(17,235 posts)as did the presentation of the Mueller Report. The rules have changed AND there are no rules. Republicans are prepared to lie, cheat and steal a lot more!
Eyeball_Kid
(7,432 posts)BOTH exposed Trump and the GOP as cowards and fascists. They took VOTES. They committed themselves. There is no hiding when votes are cast.
Rather, it was a cowardly GOP that refused to heed the warnings and the crimes in the Mueller report, which was effective in exposing Trump's crimes and abuses of power. The GOP was NEVER going to favor the findings in the Mueller report, but they had to be exposed. The same is true with the trial. That the GOP, except for Romney, didn't listen isn't the fault of the efforts to expose Trump as a lying fascist. It's the fault of the GOP being afraid to face the truth.

(17,235 posts)The Impeachment proceedings should have waited out the subpoenas for documents and witnesses and should have dragged on for as long as was necessary, even if it continued through the entire election seasons. The Impeachment of Barr should be in preparation and add others like Pence as we continue along.

(1,306 posts)They both cemented the beliefs of the Republicans. I live/work in an area that went 82% for trump in 2106. That 82% believe the Mueller Report and the impeachment just proves that trump is the greatest president ever and the entire world is ganging up to try to take him down because of it.
I'll be surprised if trump gets less than 90% in the 2020 election in this county, from the conversations I overhear.

(6,448 posts)media should put all GOP on a time delay long enough to fact-check what they're saying.
Then, like those Joe Isuzu commercials years ago, put the words "He's lying" at the bottom of the screen.
Make every presidential speech--or anything coming from the WH or Mitch--have a rebuttal of truth.
Include the upcoming debates too between Trump and our eventual candidate.

(6,448 posts)Trump will want to stand over him the same creepy way he did with Hillary. That wasn't about the message. It was about the visual.
I really don't care about trivial things like height, weight, eye color, or any ridiculousness. I want a great president.
Trump assesses everything like the true anti-intellectual he is. That's why I think he'll show up and debate.

CaptYossarian
(6,448 posts)The Trump Tax "Cut" screwed over the middle class and the Trump Tariffs screwed the farmers. If we incessantly put his name (deservedly) on these policies he implemented, they'll get the picture and we can flip the fly-over states he carried in '16.
Racism can do a lot of things, but it won't feed the family.

(1,685 posts)But they did not put pressure on their senators to impeach. I would like to think you are right and perhaps you will be shown to be right. If that is the case I will happily, giddily admit my error. That being said internal belief structures arent easily changed even with hard evidence. Of those who voted for him I cannot imagine him losing any large percentage. It wont take much to flip a couple of states but that is where the Democratic focus must be. The independents and those who usually voted Democratic but hated Hillary for some pathetic reason must be the target.

(23,682 posts)First, he was never going to be elected President....He was elected President
Then, he wouldn't last a month past his inauguration, then 3 months, then 6 months, then a year....how did that work out?
The Mueller Report was going to be the nail in his coffin.....he's the walking dead.
The impeachment was going to get all the evidence out there, (which it did) and while it may not remove him from office it would change the hearts and minds of all those supporters. Nope, they are more dug in than ever and he is more embolden than ever.
Your predictions of hearings starting next week where insiders start talking is certainly wishful thinking, I fear it's just that, wishful thinking. I hope I'm proven wrong.

(14,154 posts)Chief Justice Roberts should be squawking about what Barr is doing over at the Department of Justice and making a mockery of the Rule of Law,.. not the whims of men.
John Roberts did speak out publicly about two years ago when Trump was bashing Obama Judges. Roberts spanked Trump by saying that there are no Trump, Obama or Bush Judges, only American judges. Trump never responded, knowing that he better not alienate Roberts any further.
