I often wonder how politically-opposite couples survive. It must be very stressful at the Conway residence, or the Carville/Matalin household.

Plus we have drifted from church life, which kind of shifted things a bit.

he came from a Republican household that practically adored Nixon. He's come a VERY long way since then. I've been working on him for more than 30 years!

He jumped ship when W. took the war into Iraq. He's firmly on the better side of history now.

She is actually apolitical although she votes blue. She just doesn't like to
hear me gripe about the state of affairs. She is absorbed by her job.

It's difficult enough to have to deal with and be polite to coworkers and neighbors who are Republicans. Why would I want to deal with that in my own home?

He doesn't consume the news the way I do and gets irritated when I go on and on about Russia and Russian Repugs. I do get a little monomaniacal about my disgust and dismay with what's going down, so the reminder isn't unwarranted. He is a progressive and a Democrat or we wouldn't have been together all these years (38).

How we managed to fall in love is a long story for another time. But we did.

She was always too intelligent and good-hearted to espouse an ideology that she was brought up in. She started drifting to the left not long after we got married. In 2008, she voted, not so much for Barack Obama as against McCain/Palin. In 2012, she voted for Obama without a qualm. And when Trump came on the scene, she finally jumped feet-first into the liberal Democratic camp.

She's so disgusted with the Republican Party, she can barely talk about them without spitting...

My past relationships my significant others have either been equally or more liberal than myself. There is no way I would ever consider a relationship with a conservative. Ever.

Although I can be a moderate liberal at times, I'm much more liberal than she is on everything.
