Every year i see regular posters on DU with dozens of hearts. Then I see many DUers, many whom have been on here for years, with none a just a few. The reason I can't stand the whole Valentine's day thing is that many don't have a special person to share the day. My wife and I don't care two shits about V Day so that makes it nice.
However, like I do annually, I buy 25 hearts and share with with fellow DUers who have no or maybe one heart. Of course I make you work slightly for them haha.
This year please post a response that includes your favorite family dinner food/setting and why. I'll start.
Mine was going to my grandma's house on Sundays. As soon as the backdoor opened you could smell the pot roast with carrots, celery, onions, and potatoes permeating the house. She would always have some cheese and crackers snacks while the adults had a pre-dinner cocktail. Us kids would have 7up with a cherry in it. Grandma would usually forget the rolls in the oven and would end up a little medium well lol.

(2,220 posts)After this incident, Aunt H was assigned to do it!
My fave cuz and I were just starting the eat the chicken and dumplings, and both of us began to make confused faces about them. "What's wrong with the chicken and dumplings?" we both said.
It didn't take too many more bites to realize Aunt L had forgotten to add the chicken, which was probably still sitting in a pot in her kitchen!
Bland....oh yeah. Clearly missing something important...like CHICKEN!!!
Bless her heart. She was in her 90's when it happened so she had a very long run of being the official chicken and dumplings maker.

(4,742 posts)I remember my grandmother once...not in her 90s...made strawberry rhubarb pie. She was very upset when she took the first bite and had forgotten the strawberries LOL. Thank you!

(14,532 posts)made a pumpkin pie for thanksgiving dinner. Instead of cinnamon, she put in cumin. Both are about the same color and she quickly looked at the label. Ooopsies. The first one to take a bite was her. LOL. When I left, I hugged her and asked her if she was cumin to our house next year. None of us ever let her live that down. She was actually an excellent cook, which made her mistake even funnier.

So glad to hear the sweet relatives of others are as forgetful as mine were.

(1,639 posts)Is the smell of my grandma's house. When entering, the scent of sharp cheeses and bread wafted in the air. Grandma would make some soup with pasta in it. Into that went the ubiquitous mix of Parmesan and Romano. After you were done, she would shuffle to the table with the handle of the pot shaking all the while in her hand, smile and say, "You like?" After assuring Grandma that it was good, she would then tip nearly the entire pot into your bowl and say, "Then you want more!"
