Here's a good analogy for guys like John Bolton and John Kelly.
They're Tywin Lannister, from Game of Thrones.
Immoral, blood-thirsty, self-motivated bastards with their own little plans and agendas. Definitely not good guys.
But on the other hand, they are still smart and cunning with no tolerance for bullshit or foolish pride, and they aren't afraid to speak their mind when confronted by that.
Trump, on the other hand, is like Geoffrey or King Aerys II (the "Mad King"
, who Lannister had to dress down repeatedly when they acted out.
In other words, it's smart-evil versus dumb-evil.
