No one is going to write up a bill that eliminates private insurance, lets corporations just pocket all that, then makes workers make up for it all with higher taxes. That's what some make it sound like.
It's part of our compensation at work, in lieu of higher wages. At least tell us it will mean a large tax on business and a small increase for us that will pay for it all. Maybe they come up with a plan that mandates company's increase wages accordingly, and we get a higher tax increase. They need to at least promise everyone gets a fair deal.
If we're cutting out the middleman, the savings should allow a good deal for everyone. Corporations should see they pay out at least a little less, and workers get better coverage that is worth the tax increase. Plus they get that no matter where they work.
When people answer polls and say they like their health care plan, they are really saying they like being paid. Chances are their plan sucks, but they see that big chunk the company pays for that coverage. Try having about three years in-a-row where you meet your deductible and out of pocket limit like I did, and see how much you like it.
