https://www.accuweather.com/en/us/south-lake-tahoe/96150/february-weather/337257?year=2020The forecast and prediction graph at the bottom here doesn't SEEM too big of a deal.
BUT, here "on the ground" it's been really strange. More rain than snowfall near Lake Level (fine, the ski resorts up top still have snow and I don't have to shovel!) I can see most of the grass in the yard, and the roads are dry, easy walk to the mailbox, etc. Hell, I'm wearing sneakers instead of snowboots!
The animals that are usually pretty dormant are out and about, I've been making sure to supply seed, etc. But the BIG shocker was something that happened yesterday and today:
The Chickadee has a special call that it uses in spring & summer. We call it the "cheeseburger bird" when we hear it and it usually harkens us to real spring... well, I heard the little boogers yesterday faintly, and shrugged it off. Today they are definitely singing the spring song. Like, 2-3 MONTHS before the usual time!
I worry they are going to mate and have babies and we're gonna get the usual March snowfall and they are gonna lose a generation of birds!
It's just anecdotal, I know. But sometimes in certain ecosystems, especially if you have lived here for 25+ years, you can begin to really SEE the changes from climate-shift. It's weird.
Am I losing it or is anyone seeing these kinds of shifts too?

(3,243 posts)I know where I live the winters are much milder than when I was a kid. I live in Northern Ohio and we keep setting records for mild days each winter.
Climate change deniers will tell you it's arrogant to think us humans can change something as huge as the climate, but I say it's more arrogant to think we can do anything we want to our environment and not pay a price.
I grew up in the Bay Area and it NEVER topped 90 in the summers... now they have over 100 for days even weeks...
Humans are truly arrogant about their ability to ruin natural balance

(25,939 posts)Used to be, if you saw a robin this time of year, it was frozen to the ground.
