(111,098 posts)They both believe themselves independent of any outside pressure. Trump believes they both work for him. It is a clash of egos. Trump will bide his time to get revenge on both for crossing him. Also, he knows that Mitch knows he cannot win his race in KY without Donald Trump behind him.

(111,098 posts)...why bring Mitch into the show?
Trump has given both Barr and McConnell room to do their own thing, more or less. At least, they thought they were doing their own thing.
Both are the type of personality that values their "reputation", whatever they perceive it to be? Mitch likes to be known as the "grim reaper". Barr is independent and the man in charge. Don't try to force him to do something he doesn't want to do.

(111,098 posts)...he thinks he is the leader of their Party. Trump may back down and not say anything about McConnell but, in my opinion, he may want Barr gone for some reason. He may not be as malleable as he hoped he would be?

(22,130 posts)and the Senate republicans? Maybe rump is going a little too far for them even in his outlandish and boorish behavior in trying to influence the courts? Maybe, just maybe...
Or perhaps they realized the magnitude of their missteps in acquitting rump and now are seeing him in his stained glory and bad paint job on the face?
