At the center of this story, "Russia Backs Trump's Re-election, and He Fears Democrats Will Exploit Its Support" (https://nyti.ms/2uTOgJ7 ), is Shelby Pierson, the Intelligence Community Election Threats Executive.
@NoelKing interviewed her last month:

(9,145 posts)Went to the 2001 convention and used the new technology along with other activists after we lost the electoral college in 2000. That was accomplished in Florida with the aid of a butterfly ballot. After the Iowa caucuses, it's hard to imagine we won't screw up something.

Paper ballots can be verified and secured.

Trump is pissed that the news was shared at all. He wanted it BURIED. This business about IQ45 thinking it was only to Schiff (or Schumer) vs the whole committee is a made up story to cover the firing of the DNI.

(3,276 posts)that Devin Nunes put a bug in Trump's ear that Schiff got personally briefed.
And I certainly wouldn't put it past Nunes.

(57,240 posts)My wife and I who were cold warriors and veterans cannot believe this story would ever be in the mainstream press. Its just so conspiracy porn except its happening in real time.
Its almost got a Catch-22 feel about it. Trump is a low IQ version of Milo Minderbinder.

(21 posts)attributed to Bernie Bros. They could be Russian military or bots impersonating Bernie Supporters. Lets not be so fast to rush to judgement until we know ALL the facts.

(81,500 posts)Hmmmm... could be. But I've gotta say - in 2016, the "Bernie Bros" were in full "flower" here and elsewhere, before Russia was ever known to be involved in election meddling.
It was HORRIBLE. I'm one who was on the receiving end, and my case was nothing compared to the way some here were jumped all over, piled on, attacked repeatedly and relentlessly, and driven off this site. I got run off, too. And it WAS the Bernie people. There was a pack of 'em here. They were very vocal about it, about their ardor for Bernie, their hatred of people who wouldn't join them (the nerve of us for finding him not worthy of our support!) and there was no mistaking their position. They were quite out and proud about it. They overran DU and pretty much took over, alienating and driving away anyone who wasn't an all-out Bernie worshipper.

Democrats have to start throwing a meme "If you vote for trump you vote for Putin" or something like that.

(4,274 posts)reason that this current proposed guy to head all of the intel agencies is mainly so that he will tell the Orange Ruski in real time anything the agencies are finding out about the meddling so that he and Jared can relay that back to Putin immediately.

(2,698 posts)Actually, that might be better: prize to the SECOND Republican, then the THIRD, etc.
But I don't see a trend forming anywhere in the GOP to denounce Trump. To denounce a sitting President, one of your own Party, would take both spine and moral courage, neither of which can be found anywhere in the GOP Senate or House. Romney is the exception that proves the rule.
All the rest of them, all of them, are slavish little nothings who have set about ruining the promise that was America. May they not die, any of them, until they have witnessed history's accurate portrayal of them as teeny, tiny, unprincipled little cowards -- and, yes, I'm talking about you Mitch, and you Lindsey, and you Devin, all of you.

(2,698 posts)Trump is, apparently, concerned that Maguire's revelations might impede Russian interference. Sure, he's also ticked off that he heard from the shadows that Maguire had briefed Schiff in private and, because he's an infantile narcissist, felt compelled to fire Maguire on that count alone. But the underlying crime of Maguire and American Intelligence here is that Maguire's unearthing of Russia's activities will impede Putin's efforts to fix the election for Trump.
And now, as someone here has suggested, Trump will either win (which he will claim as the greatest victory in the history of victories) or, losing, claim that the election process was actually rigged against him. Barr will back him either way as will every serving GOP craven little weasel in the House and Senate, and the Roberts Court: Roberts, Kavanaugh, Gorsuch, Thomas, and Alito, of course, hate Trump for the illiterate nincompoop he is, but they know that Ruth Ginsberg's spot on the Court will be vacant should she retire or die -- and they definitely want another conservative-fascist to join with them because there are just so many rights to wrong and so many freedoms to provide to money, big money, and bigger money. So if the Dem's squeak by in the presidential election and Trump calls foul and rejects the results, I am not at all sure that virtually all GOP politicians and the Roberts' Court would not endorse his decision.

(22,976 posts)Seriously, this has been a major issue for three-plus years now. Russian trolls have been racking up retweets of 45s Twitter brain-droppings all this time. 99% of the garbage on Facebook is generated from Russia. They continue to interfere on various progressive/Democratic websites as well. And who knows how far they got into our actual vote counting, and will do so again?
I smell a useful idiot rat, and his initials are DJT.
