(6,045 posts)I've been on DU for well over a decade & to "rec" a post I got within hours on the site but I've never been 100% sure about the "kick" part...What does that actually imply? ...Simply posting a comment to the Post along with clicking "rec" or is there more to it?
...
Thanks in advance.
BigmanPigman
(53,714 posts)I asked when I first joined and I think I was told that K&R means kicked and recommend. Kicking a thread just means that you are posting to that thread, which "kicks" it to the top of page one. The longer a thread remains on page one, the more replies it will get. Recommend means that someone clicks the DU Rec button. If a thread gets enough recs (it used to be 5, I think) it goes on the "Greatest" page.
SkyDaddy7
(6,045 posts)Yes, I that too is my impression of what "K&R" means.

(15,398 posts)I realized it when I saw a poll here which asked if DU members had pensions (not including Social Security). A very large percentage had at least one retirement pension, and sometimes multiple ones.
Thats when I knew most DUers were Baby Boomers.
happybird
(5,375 posts)At first, I was was shocked by the number of folks who reported having a pension ... then I said, Oooohhh.
scarletwoman
(31,893 posts)been the largest. This place has always been full of Boomers - not sorry about it, either.
For me, I was 51 when I joined, now I'm 70 - and that probably includes a lot of other DUers who started out already in their 40s or 50s now showing up in the over 60 group.
dmr
(28,705 posts)Now I'm (cough) 67! Retired collecting Social Security, Medicare, and a pension.
I (and my family) would not be where we are today if not for DU and those we've meant here, because they changed our lives forever. Choices were made because of DUer influences.
The youngins from those early days are now middle age. Hell my son joined at age 12, and next month he'll be 31! Good grief! How can that be? He's heading toward middle age himself!
Age is just a number that is filled with experiences. As they say: if I knew then what I know now ...

(22,976 posts)Ill be 71 in a few months, my wife is 65. Both of us have been liberal Democrats our entire voting lives. With each passing (and increasingly fascistic) Republican regime, our political compasses have skewed further leftward.
We are both voting for Bernie next Tuesday. Dont count us all out. We may have more years under the belt, but our attitudes and outlook are more focused than theyve ever been.
We simply arent old codgers who surrender to time. I still play slide guitar and Chicago-style amplified blues harp, we volunteer at our local animal shelter, travel a bit, and stay informed, active and engaged. My older brother (73) was Republican, but in 2016 he wrote-in Bernie Sanders on his ballot. This isnt our grandparents or parents retirement. We still enjoy raising hell, but with a dollop is wisdom!
Cheers
