and the hearse crashed. By the time we reached the intersection on our way home, there were people everywhere telling us that they killed a dead woman. We thought it particularly cold but funny. I nevr forgot it.

(15,951 posts)12. So, was this woman waiting all night before her funeral the next day?
Seems kinda weird that she had to wait overnight in a Lincoln Nav.
Shouldn't she have been still at the funeral home?

True story - In a previous life, I was married to a terminal home care nurse. Every now and then, she'd be called at odd hours when a patient had passed away, to declare the patient dead and to make other arrangements.
One night, I drove her out to a home in our station wagon and drove around the block a few times while she went in to deal with things. I was eyed by a cop, and figured it might be better to just park outside the house.
After a long while, one of the grieving family members stepped outside for a smoke. Noticing me sitting in the car on the street, he came over to have a look at me.
I rolled down the window and asked, "Is she done in there?"
"What?"
"Is she finished. Is she ready to go?"
He was visibly shaken by the question, but got a hold of himself and asked, "Who?"
"The nurse. I'm her husband. I was driving around the block but a cop was looking to check me out."
A wave of relief came over him and he said, "Oh, I thought you were from the funeral home!"
Oy.
