(4,123 posts)How awful that it even needs to be addressed.

(5,954 posts)The Marine Corps finally decided to ban a dog-whistle symbol of racism after 155 years. Congratulations to that general, but I think all his predecessors should drop and give me 50.

(3,473 posts)But this must came out and I don't frequent right-wing sites or have many of them on my social media accounts. I suppose one person saying something on Fox or hate-wing radio could trigger a response from Trump.

This asshole has a talent for only one thing. The ability to sense when it's exactly the right time to shove a stick of dynamite into a septic tank, and cause raining shit storm to distract from his own incompetence and criminal behavior.

(6,884 posts)if they took an oath of allegiance, and everyone wanted to let bygones be bygones, and so there was never a period when they were truly seen as traitors rather than brothers. And now that is catching up to us - with the realization that we are a nation roughly half-filled with traitors.

(13,042 posts)It's been 155 years since the civil war ended. One would think given so much time has passed and so many generations have come and gone, that we as a nation would have healed by now. Apparently not.

I've never understood why they are so proud to feature a loser decoration. It was the white flag that really counted in that incursion. Republicans, every one of them.

(1,665 posts)Ive said it before: no army in the world ever killed as many American military men and women as the confederacy. Its disgusting that symbols of those traitors were ever allowed on military bases.

therefore there were never Confederate Marines.

(11 posts)The Confederate States Navy was established by the Confederate Congress in February 1861. The following month they established the Confederate States Marine Corps. Please see Wikipedia & many other sources.

(28,941 posts)It was the first navy to have an ironclad ship of the line - The Merrimack.
JHB
(37,160 posts)The frigate USS Merrimack had been building in naval shipyard in Virginia when it seceded. At that point, it and other ships were scuttled.
The scuttled Merrimack had enough left intact (including its steam engines) that the CS Navy raised it and extensively altered its design to be rebuilt as an ironclad, predictably named the CSS Virginia.
I've wondered why a Confederate ship was always named after a river in NH.
Well, history is written by the victors

(5,401 posts)But it belongs in museums, alongside photos of African-Americans working as slaves, as a reminder of a bygone time with values we no longer approve of.
If you use it on your bumper, as a mark that you approve of those historic values, or wish to identify yourself to others with equal personal values, you are doing it wrong. Be a rebel in some other way.
Equivalent of driving around in Germany in a VW with a swastika sticker on the rear bumper.

Do the same thing they did with skinhead tattoos after James Burmeister murdered two black people: Cover em up or have em lasered off, they have no place in our military.
