He, a former civil rights attorney, gave a very forthright interview with Joy today. Didn't duck an awkward Biden/Bernie question. He always seems to be overlooked and unestimated, at least to me, but the guy really has a lot of integrity.

(33,020 posts)Go read his wiki if you don't already 'know' about him
and amazingly unassuming for a senator

(23,337 posts)I so hope the DNC has his back for re-election. Thats an important race to be sure.

(58,700 posts)He has been more of an asset than I figured he would. For a Southern Dem, he is much preferable to Manchin.
FoxNewsSucks
(10,434 posts)Jones' seat is less secure than Manchin's, yet he takes that risk to act with integrity.

(33,610 posts)Jones is behind by 15.

(7,113 posts)And glad to see him applauded here.
I've heard a couple of young progressive activists complaining about Jones' centrist voting record, claiming he needs to be primaried by a true progressive.
The stupid: It hurts.

(6,204 posts)Doug Jones is well liked in Alabama, and at least has a chance of holding onto his seat.
Not so for a progressive.
Trump got over 62% of the vote in Alabama in 2016.
It's a deep red state.
Polybius
(15,472 posts)It sucks, but he's already leading Jones 54%-41%. Even Tuberville led him 50%-42%, and Byrne by 51%-42%.

(35,454 posts)he voted his conscience despite the liability it presents to him
Polybius
(15,472 posts)It widened considerably after the impeachment vote. In the end, I think it's best that Jones stays a Senator. Sometimes voting your conscience isn't the best thing to do.
Sorry for the rant, I'm just upset because I just searched for this poll right before I posted it. I had no idea he was losing by such a wide margin.

(6,204 posts)Alabama is much more of a regressive state than a progressive one.

(33,610 posts)the voters in Alabama don't care about.

Only 20,000 people voted for him instead of a Pedophile!
They don't care about those things.
This has nothing to do with my respect for Jones, just my disgust at the voters of Alabama.

(11,521 posts)Of course that would take away my opportunity to vote for my Democratic candidate of choice in the presidential primary.

(35,454 posts)Likely Jones will lose, but for the time we had him, he was a damn good Dem.
