Miami woman who traveled to Italy reportedly denied proper testing for coronavirus

She was sent home and told to stay in her house for 14 days.

Miami woman who traveled to Italy reportedly denied proper testing for coronavirus

MIAMI (CBS12) — A woman who recently returned from Italy was told by doctors at Jackson Memorial Hospital that she "likely" has coronavirus, but they can't verify it because state and federal officials wouldn't conduct the necessary tests to confirm it, WFOR reported.

“The doctor himself told me that, you know, he thinks that the results of my [preliminary] tests mean that I most likely have the COVID-19, but that the Department of Health did not want to pursue it further,” the woman, who wants to remain unidentified, told WFOR. “It was either the Department of Health or the CDC that decided not to further pursue the inquiry. But I was basically told that it is most likely that I have this virus and that I should self-quarantine.”

The woman spent a week in Northern Italy, just as the virus was spreading in that region, according to WFOR. Afraid she would be trapped in Italy, she flew home to Miami International Airport on Feb. 26. She was told by her physician to go to Jackson to get tested for coronavirus.

Although the woman tested positive for previous strains of the coronavirus, the doctor couldn't verify it without a test conducted by the CDC in Atlanta, according to WFOR. One of the reasons why they wouldn't do the test is because she's not considered "high-risk," since she's in her 30s and "otherwise healthy."

They need to test populations-as in everyone-to gauge the spread of the virus. They are obviously trying to keep the numbers down for fearless leader.

Or...
They are so far behind in test kits they are rationing them and that is also-INSANE!

Dr. Aileen Marty from the article stated:

“If you are not testing, then you don’t know how many people actually have the virus,” said Dr. Aileen Marty, an infectious disease expert at Florida International University. “And we have not been testing.”

I remember her, she was the expert that President Obama appointed as part of the task force during the ebola outbreak. She knows what the hell she is talking about!

That should clear out a lot of that red CDC tape. The only way we are going to get through this is to get the Fed govt and Trump out of the equation. They need to find some way to go around him.

We have a couple in our community who just returned from Italy. They thought it was great that they had better access to sites because other tourists were staying in their hotels. They met with their daughter, from France, who got sick a day or two after they were with her.

Our county, which was praised for its handling of the Ebola virus when someone with it landed in our community, had no information about what to do with the couple. After consultations that took most of a day, they are now "advised" to self-quarantine for 14 days from the last day they saw their daughter - more than a week ago - (not the last day they were in Italy). No special screenings when they returned on Sunday. They initiated the contact with the local health department - no one told them to. They were circulating in general population the remainder of Sunday and part of Monday. (My spouse is on the Board of Health, so I got more of the back story than is published in the local news.)

I hate to say it - but I hope their daughter tests positive (and has a very mild case) so that the quarantine is taken more seriously, extends a full 14 days from their return, and is made mandatory. Since a member of the couple is a local judge, and I work at the local law school (with lots of students working in the prosecutor's office, or interning at the courts which share the same building), if she's not kept in quarantine I am almost certainly one handshake away from contact with the coronavirus.
