HALF OF AMERICANS HAVE NO SAVINGS TO FALL BACK ON IF THEY CONTRACT AN ILLNESS LIKE CORONAVIRUS AND CAN'T WORK, SURVEY SAYS

"SNIP.....

According to a new survey, nearly half of Americans polled stated that they did not have any savings to fall back on in the event that they contracted an illness like the coronavirus and were unable to work.

The survey was conducted by GoBankingRates.com and polled 1,013 Americans, age 18 and up. The survey asked Americans a number of different questions, with one of them being; "if you or an immediate family member were to become unexpectedly sick—due to the coronavirus, for example—how much do you have saved to cover the expenses?"

The coronavirus, officially known as COVID-19, originated in Wuhan, China, but has spread to a number of different countries, infecting over 80,000 people. Despite the widespread outbreak of the virus, nearly half of the survey answers uncover that they have no money stashed away in the event of a health crisis, like COVID-19.

In addition, the survey also found amounts of money that some people have saved. Three out of four people claimed to have $5,000 or less saved while only 10 percent of respondents claimed to have more than $50,000 stowed away.

48% of Americans have less than $400 in the bank. Do you know how far $400 will get you with anything having to do with health care...a box of tissues and about 6 Band-aids. Half of the citizens don't even know that they have "junk insur" from their GOP states. That dude in FL that was charged $thousands for a virus test is one of those with crappy, state health insur. I wonder who he voted for?

It is the only way. And if there are mandatory self isolation in cities or mandatory quarantine landlords have to do something because they will lose more money if they evict half the building while nobody can afford to move in. So intead of losing one month rent they will lose multiple months rents.

They think about "next week" as the future. Today at the press briefing they wouldn't even answer a reporter's question about health insur paying for the test. Stephen Miller's wife even scolded him for having the nerve to ask such a question. No wonder no one trusts them. All they do is walk around with "$" signs in their eyes, brains and hearts.

The test should be free and in abundance all across the country. The fucking moron did this and it is on him now. There should be mandatory testing, but I doubt that the constitution would allow that, just like testing before being allowed to board a plane. In WW2 people that were rescued from the camps were fumigated since TB was killing so many in the camps across Europe (I think it carried is from lice and fleas) and they were each given a card that said they had been sprayed and could go out in the public.

It is a public safety thing, screw the costs! As you said, it will cost more NOT to test in the long run. People are so short-sighted.

I knew it started with a "t".

"DDT insecticide spray guns such as this one were used by British medical personnel to spray all prisoners and anyone entering Bergen-Belsen concentration camp to kill lice, which carry typhus. When the Allies liberated various concentration camps they found the camps rife with disease, with former prisoners suffering from typhus, dysentry and tuberculosis."

Burdened down by debt. They are usually the ones who bring the bugs into the office because they are so scared of missing work.

One of their kids gets sick and in comes their sorry sick ass to work, rather than staying home as they should.

You stated earlier they're scared of missing work, but then you say stay home 'as they should'

I think most sick people would prefer to stay home

I have a couple around me who consistently bring the bugs in every winter. They can’t seem to get the work from home concept, even though we are extended the privilege. Others even make comments to them about it...lol.

Seen it a lot. Even heard them say, “Oh yeah, kid is sick but I can’t get day care so I just sent them to school.”

That’s why every job should have a mandatory allotment of paid sick days.

after less than 20 years and have a crappy immune system due to it. I was sick 90% of the school year and that is with good eating, exercising, sleeping, yearly flu shots, etc. I am on a very limited state income through retirement/disability and 25% of it goes to my ACA health insur and "other" health related costs is an additional 10% (35% total). Oh joy!

been self quarantining for a long time...safer that way. Who else would always have face masks at home if it isn't an ex-teacher? No protest rallies for me in the near future. Besides, I can't do much since I have to save all my income for next health emergency. Good thing I have been living frugally my whole life (artists and teachers do not make the big bucks).

Trump supporter complains shutdown is 'not hurting the people he needs to be hurting'

https://thehill.com/blogs/blog-briefing-room/news/424263-trump-supporter-complains-shutdown-is-not-hurting-the-people-he

A prison employee in Florida who voted for President Trump argued that Trump is to blame for the current government shutdown.

“I voted for him, and he’s the one who’s doing this,” Crystal Minton told The New York Times in an article published Monday. “I thought he was going to do good things. He’s not hurting the people he needs to be hurting.”

Minton's comments came as part of an expansive report from the newspaper on how the government shutdown, as well as a hurricane, have impacted a Florida town.
