CA-53: Justice Dem. Georgette Gomez finishes behind Sarah Jacobs in jungle primary.

SAN DIEGO (KUSI) – Democrat Georgette Gomez took second in Tuesday’s primary to represent California’s 53rd Congressional District.

Gomez received 18.6 percent of the vote, trailing behind Democratic Candidate Sara Jacobs who garnered 29.6 percent of the vote.

The race for the seat started with 16 candidates seeking to replace Rep. Susan Davis who announced she would not seek re-election in 2020.

Gomez and Jacobs will go head-to-head in a runoff election in November.

Candidate Georgette Gomez was in studio to discuss the results of Super Tuesday and her hopes for the November election.

Her super rich grandparents ran a super pack and coordinated with her to promote the republican over Gomez. So glad it didn’t work!

Gómez’s campaign has filed a complaint with the FEC alleging that Jacobs’ campaign or an affiliated SuperPAC — funded by Jacobs’ grandparents — produced the mailers without a disclaimer. The complaint points to the television and digital ads and the financial resources supporting Jacobs as evidence, but it does not provide any tangible link between the Jacobs campaign and the mailers.
