Broward County EOC presser

The doctor in charge essentially just answered a reporters question on the whereabouts of our two confirmed cases by saying that privacy of the patients was more important than the public health!

Other reporters are now following up.

Canned government answer:

“...the epidimedilogical investigation is ongoing, um we cannot discuss details of individual cases, what is very important for the public to know are the measures I talked about...we all can take these simple actions to protect ourselves from Covid-19...”

So they won’t tell us where the patients are, who they’ve come into contact with. Nothing.

hiding the truth is going to cause more panic than not

1. privacy is an issue but first rule of "public spokespeople" during time of crisis is to limit what

is said as means to "control panic" in the public, not to PROTECT the public

For someone with no immune system, this is such a nightmare scenario!

My dad is 91 and in pretty good health, but when they say that a 75 and a 65 year old "somewhere" have it, but won't tell us where, it scares me that it could be at a risky place like Century Village where he lives...

9. Meh. This is HIPPA (necessary?) bullshit.

Hippa rules are for First-World healthcare systems (and as such, ARE NECESSARY).

But if our government is going to act like a third world banana republic in terms of dealing with this, they should probably be ignored.

That's just my 2 cents, and YMMV.
