And even if that is truly an accurate number, I gather that the 97% chance of surviving is somehow insignificant.

Their logic, if you don't test, you can't have any cases to report.......

Genocide of the Seniors...........one way to get the cost of medicare down.......

I think the people responsible for getting the tests are simply incompetent.

And in fact, the less testing done, the worse things look, because those hospitalized are getting tested. What's not being tested are the many who actually have contracted the virus, and like about 80% of those who have contracted it, have mild or no symptoms at all.

Not testing makes it look vastly worse than it is.

Even with all the hysteria over this, there are not millions of people sick and dying. Really. Thousands, yeah. But not the millions everyone seems to think are out there. Honestly, from what I read here on DU it seems as if 75% of those here are "self-isolating" whatever that means, and half of us are going to die within the next couple of months.

Makes me singularly glad I'm actually on a cruise ship right now.

Your last line almost got my mouthful of coffee all over my desktop screen and keyboard.

I thought your comments were serious, and then I got to the line that you actually are on a cruise ship...........

You are being sarcastic with your comments, aren't you?

If you are serious, you need to do some reading on how this whole thing is unfolding........

If the cruise includes wi-fi and you can get movies, a good one for you would be CONTAGION........followed by Dustin Hoffman in OUTBREAK which is less realistic and far less scientific, but still entertaining.

Sure, CONTAGION is a movie, and fiction, and released in 2011, but the scientific stuff portrayed is for the most part damn accurate.....at least after watching, most people could discuss the Virus intelligently................(Of course THE major falsehood in both movies is that the Gov't developed the Vaccine, mass produced it and began vaccinating within in a month or two)

Or for something even more fun, download on YOUTUBE, last nights Rachel Maddow's Show.

The only countries that are making any headway at all with this pandemic are the ones that are doing massive testing and segregating.

I would love to see someone give the Republican Senate and Trump a third grade science test and reveal their scores on National TV.
That, vs the scientists they are so willfully ignoring, and have been contradiciting for over three months......

As this is unfolding, someone observed that this is IN FACT going to be the largest SENIOR'S GENOCIDE ever, in History, with the exception of the 1918 Pandemic.......

and contain genuine medical inaccuracies.

Yes, I am on a cruise ship. The captain gives us daily updates on what's going on.

As for testing vs deaths, think about this.

Around 270,000 to 350,000 people hospitalized because of influenza. 30,000 died. Up to 10% of those hospitalized died. If those are the only cases you are counting, influenza is incredibly deadly. But vastly more people get it, don't die, don't get hospitalized, and many don't even bother to go to a doctor. But we have good ways of estimating the numbers of those who aren't hospitalized, which is how we know that while influenza can kill, it's not incredibly deadly.

Because some other countries are testing lots of people, they have a better handle on who has it, and the fact that the huge majority have few or no symptoms.

I just had a friend yesterday come back from Italy thru customs in LaGuardia, and not one person checked her except for customs checking her luggage for undeclared items....................this has been the case for months as many of our friends returning from even the Hottest cities over there have breezed right into the U.S. with no health check whatsoever.......

Yes there are several wrong things made to make things interesting. But CONTAGION had an awful lot of totally accurate things in it, especially on the scientific immunology/virology end. (Actually I was shocked, movies are usually, like you said mostly inaccurate info.......)

Truthfully, I wish I hadn't had so much Biology and Micro-biology in college, at this point I really don't feel I would like to know as much as I do. I am glad that the times that I was in a LEVEL ONE HAZMAT suit are far far far behind me........

We should talk in four months, I suspect that there is a lot of stuff we don't know, and probably a lot more that we DON'T want to know.
At this point, our Executive branch has shown they are far more concerned with the economic impact than their concern for human lives.......

for them to provide an adequate safety net and health care to their citizens. They have no more money per capita than we do but they spend it differently.
