We'll never solve this problem if we're unwilling to look beyond our own borders and engage fully with the rest of the world. A disease can come from any city on earth within hours. We need coordinated response like we did for the Ebola crisis. We should be strengthening the global health security agenda which we launched in the previous administration specifically to mobilize the world against the threat of new infectious diseases. It can be hard to see the value of this work when everything is going well. But by cutting our investment in global health, this administration has left us woefully unprepared for the exact crisis we now face.
